Mobile Oyster card from Gatwick airport

I am just wondering if anyone can help.

Ds and his friend are going to London next week. They are flying into Gatwick and staying in Chelsea.

How does the oyster card work and can they buy it at Gatwick and travel to Chelsea.

Sorry I am hopeless

They shouldn’t need an Oyster card these days, they can use contactless, either on their card or with their phone.

As above. Contactless is fine. We have used this loads of time now. And I’m pretty sure it has the same pricing structure for n the underground, or at least this was our understanding of it when we used it.

Just to let you know that you the other trains from Gatwick to London (London Bridge/Victoria/Blackfriars/St Pancras) are cheaper than the Gatwick express particularly after 9.30am and in many cases only take a few minutes more.

Here are links to the planner and single fare finder

Yes they can, if you use the planner on the first page of the TFL home page you can put in Gatwick rail station and then the address of the hotel. It should come up with the route but it will also bring connections using the Gatwick express which you can see as the price off peak is about £10 more per person and £4 per person peak times and only a few minutes quicker. You can also use google maps to plan the route as well
