Teenagers- dating scene(update & question)

My daughter is in 6th form & 16. Never had a boyfriend, never been interested before but she now has a ‘friend’
Her best friend is a boy who she dances with and gone all through school with but this new friend is a ‘friend’. They have been to the cinema a few times and she went to his house and met his parents on Monday. Yesterday evening we was at a school event and he introduced himself and I met his parents (they were all totally adorable and lovely).
Apparently nowadays (I have no idea because I am so old apparently) you don’t just jump straight in and start going out with someone, you ‘chat’ (no kissing etc) until you officially go out.
What? !

Yes it’s a thing - you ‘talk’ for a while (I believe you can be talking to multiple people) then you date, then you get asked to be boyfriend/girlfriend!

Yes my 6th form 16 yr old daughter had never had a boyfriend until 7 weeks ago. They are still just friends at the moment?
This isn’t how I remember it to be, but I find it very sweet!
Think it’s how they do it these days😂

This is exactly the same as my daughter.
Do these friends buy each other gifts if they are still friends at Christmas ?

I believe so. I had to get dd to explain it to me when she first mentioned ‘talking’ to someone. To be honest, it’s quite a nice way of getting to know someone before being boyfriend/girlfriend.

Now you have mentioned the Xmas present... once she is ready for school I will ask what she plans to do. I will report back shortly!

Better than jumping straight into a 'full on' relationship!
