Mobile SDMT Rider Switch: word of warning

Just to give anyone planning FP a heads up regarding SDMT and rider switch.
They are implementing the every rider needs a FP rule, even those riding in group 2.
It’s literally the only ride where this is currently required, even Slinky Dog is no problem.

Thanks for the heads up. This will mean my DS and I won't get to ride after my DH and DD use their FP. I had better prepare him for the disappointment.

We're a group of 5. My youngest can't ride, but if I book fastpasses for the 4 of us that want to ride SDMT the youngest's pass can't be used at all. It needs to be paired with an adult fastpass. I can't book as a group of three either on SDMT as my 2 older kids won't sit with a stranger on a rollercoaster.

I would like to know where the information that they are changing the policy just for SDMT is coming from. In my view this does not align with the formal guidelines which Disney issue. And in the case of STM79 it does seem unfair that the youngest would not be able to utilize their FP if this is the case.

If you went through the fastpass line then you would have needed a fastpass to ride in the first place. If you went through the normal queue you don't need one. I cannot see what the problem is.

So why do Disney offer Rider Switch at all? If you already all have a FP it deems Rider Switch pointless.

Not all rides will be taken using a FP booking, so rider switch definitely helps for the walk-up rides. We used it loads when the kids were younger and it does help massively avoid needing to take young kids into long queues when they won't be riding.

However I don't agree in being able to use it with FP+ anyway, I think it should only be offered on standby queues. If not, it's just a loophole for parties travelling with kids to get extra FP rides over people visiting without young kids so should be limited to standby only, imo.

So then in that case, Disney should change their rider policy to say those who are travelling with young children are not allowed to book FP.

Why? The point in rider switch is to save young kids who won't be riding waiting in a long line.

Nothing wrong with families using FP+ to go on rides for everyone who wants to ride it. All I'm saying is there's a 'loophole' if FP+ is used for only some of the party with the others getting on with rider switch, then those people using their own FP ride to do the same on another ride and reversing roles.

I don’t see the issue with this. Surely if you are in the FP queue you should hold a FP. Otherwise you get to cheat the system just because you are using the switch option.
Or am I missing something?

We always booked a fast pass for everyone- didn't want to risk not getting on- it is a waste for the non riding child- we have given their magic band to an older sibling to use and go back on with the 2nd group- only works for groups of 6+ though
