I think smaller ships have a lot to offer in terms of service and atmosphere .

Would never cruise again with a line where we couldn't do anytime dining (without paying through the nose extra for it!)
Did you not just ask to be changed ? (I’d have hated 5.15 too and would have probably used the buffet or speciality dining instead). We’ve booked late sitting which will be 7.15 or 9.15 , if we get 9.15 I’ll be asking for it to be changed as soon as we board though.

Yeah they wouldn't do anything. It was a rubbish little table rammed in a corner too and the waiter was really rude once he found out we weren't Italian and weren't interested in buying wine. We ate in there 2 nights and then ended up in the buffet the rest of the cruise!

The really annoying thing was when we booked before the Meraviligia's maiden voyage they offered flexible dining as part of the Fantastica level so we paid extra for that. They then scrapped it within a couple of weeks of sailing and told us we were on fixed and it was tough titties. We would never book a cruise with fixed dining intentionally!

To be fair the Meraviglia herself was absolutley stunning. Wish they'd sell her to a different cruise line lol...

We have our own little conundrum with MSC coming up. We’ve booked Fantastica but our friends have now decided to join us and need a suite so are aurora so have anytime dining ... might get interesting !

I have Fantastica on Meraviglia this August booked, and have booked first sitting, given we have my sisters 5 kids with us ranging from 6-16. I don't think the timing will be an issue for us as the kids are used to eating around home from school time. And if I get hungry again later it will be pizza or something else from around the ship for a little evening snackette.

I do wonder though, if given some of the kids limited palletes and fussiness combined with potential service issues in the MDR, that we might end up frequenting the buffet a little more in the end for our evening meals.

Again not something I would do on one of my normal cruises (I'm single and childless, so cruise with friends normally), but might work out quite well for the dynamic of this cruise?
