Mobile Free seat selection for ASD child - Norwegian?

Hi all

I have read a few posts here indicating that most airlines offer welfare seating if you have an autistic child to ensure you are seated together without paying extra. Does anyone have experience of this on Norwegian? All I can find on their website relates to special assistance for disabled people requiring wheelchairs etc.

I actually already booked our flights and paid quite a premium to ensure we are seated together as they no longer include seat selection with Low Fare + so I'm also interested to hear if anyone has experience of getting fees refunded. I was hoping to provide evidence of my son's diagnosis to obtain a refund now.

Thanks.

Hi,
I don't have the exact information you are looking for but I would give them a call or do a web chat with them.

I called as I have a disability and they seated me with my husband in assigned seats for free.

I can't imagine that your family would be treated any differently?

Hi, I’ve spoken to Norwegian today as my husband has a brain injury which causes him anxiety and issues with noisy crowded environments. Norwegian told me that they don’t recognise hidden disabilities, the only special assistance they offer is for passengers with mobility issues. I’m going to email their customer relations team as it seems wrong to me.

Hi. I had a battle but have finally got them to refund almost the total amount I paid for the seats.

The first response implied Luke wouldn't have been entitled and we would have just had to request assistance once we were at the airport but I challenged this as the previous poster had indicated they got help. The second response said "We are sorry for any confusion regarding free seating when travelling with a special need such as Autism, we do provide assistance and we could have provided a free seat for your son and a companion but not for the whole family."

So I think you should be able to get help for your husband too. But I must admit the whole experience has put me off them and I may just pay the premium to fly with another airline in future.

Thanks for that, I’m glad you got some refund, I must admit I feel like avoiding using them in future. I was also told that because I’ve told them about the brain injury he now needs to get a fit to fly note?! His injury is a couple of years old so I’m sure that wrong too, but I need to email to check and get it in writing as the guy said he’d marked a note on the booking. We ended up deciding to upgrade (losing the cost of the original case we booked!) because it will hopefully make it a more comfortable experience. Hope your trip goes well and your son manages ok x
