CR or CB
Hi All
First post We have just booked 8 nights in the contemporary resort Theme park view, with the following 7 or 8 nights in a villa. I'm now getting cold feet about the CR after reading some questionable reviews about the rooms, theming and pools being rubbish... the other hotel I almost booked was the CB. We are a family of 5 - will have a 5 year old, 7 year old and 2.5 year old. Late August so the hottest time of year... this is mainly why I booked CR as it's walkable to MK so when it's too hot we can pop back to the room easily, and of course the monorail to get elsewhere. Have I made the right choice? It's double the price of CB so would be gutted to get there and be disapointed, I can change the booking if I need to. Is the skyliner easy enough to use to get around the park quickly if we were to switch to CR, and how do the buses fare, busy? I think I am just having disney cold feet after spending weeks deliberating over resorts. The other option was Riviera but I didn't like the idea of all the pull down beds. Last time I did Disney I just did a villa so I am a resort newbie. |

Welcome to the dibb, Gemmadoll.
So you have booked the Contemporary and are now thinking of changing to Caribbean Beach resort. One will obviously be far more expensive than the other, but as you have already booked Contemporary it is in budget and I will assume this is therefore not about budget. The different hotel categories and prices does make it a bit hard to compare though as it is apples and oranges, but I will share my thoughts as I have stayed at both of these hotels, Contemporary a couple of years ago and Caribbean Beach Resort in September last year. I am very surprised that you have read poor reviews of the Contemporary it is normally a very popular choice. It would be very high up on my list of Disney hotels to stay at. To the points you mention, the room have a subtle theming, e.g. plain white bedclothes rather than some of the more in your face theming you can get in other hotels. We are an all adult party and don't mind about theming too much one way or the other, but anyway the Contemporary rooms are lovely. I cannot comment on the pool as so far I have never made it to a pool at any Disney hotel. The Caribbean Beach Resort also seems popular, the rooms are a clear downgrade from the Contemporary rooms (as to be expected and reflected in price) but I had no complaints about it. I also thought the resort had good dining options, as does the Contemporary. The Skyliner opened a few days after we left so I have not experienced it but I am sure it makes getting to Epcot and HS very easy. The bus service seemed ok when I was there, a bit of a pain to get to MK a couple of times but otherwise seemed fine. I didn't like the sprawled out design of the resort as we were in a room a long way from the main amenities (probably a longer walk from my room to the hotel reception than from the Contemporary to Magic Kingdom). As I say it is hard to directly compare because they are not the same things, but Contemporary would be very high possibly my top pick whereas I doubt I would stay at Caribbean Beach Resort again, it wasn't bad but just not my thing. I have reviewed both of them on the dibb. Contemporary Caribbean Beach Resort |

The location of the Contemporary can’t be beaten for location when it comes to Magic Kingdom. For me if it was within budget I wouldn’t even consider switching to a moderate hotel. Caribbean Beach is fine but the Skyliner doesn’t attract me, it actually puts me off.

Although i have never actually stayed at the Contemporary ,or in fact the Caribbean i have been all around both and asked nicely if i could view a room at the Contemporary (which we all loved)..The Contemporary would be the "out right winner" for me! although the price tag would be far greater,so i would go with what i could afford...

Thank you all, this has been really helpful - I think it's confirmed that I have made the right choice with the Contemporary. I am not so great with cable cars so I think the Skyliner is also not great for me!
