Tomdan - yes we are flying from Birmingham. We did it last year too. Great flight on the Dreamliner into Sanford. Only our flight going through immigration, we were out in no time at all. Last year we were on a Tui package to the Yacht Club we didn’t have a car and used the transfer, I think it took about 45 minutes. I definitely prefer flying from Birmingham as it’s much closer to home and despite the fact that Sanford is a little further away I think we were probably at the hotel quicker than if we’d had to clear MCO. Definitely recommend
Thanks for that, I know I went off subject😉 also good to hear about the transport as its the first time we won't have a car.🤞 for a safe journey and a great holiday. X

We were there for Irma and found the shops were bare. No water, bread, batteries etc. People who were staying on onsite seemed to have things a bit easier. Plenty of food and bottled water etc. Disney react well in these situations. Its a bit harder if staying offsite but we managed ok. Filled the bath with water. Secured all the garden furniture and hunkered down. The news is full of tips and advice. The power was off for a few hours but things quickly got back to normal. We are due to fly out again on Tuesday... but right now who knows what will happen. Fingers crossed it changes path and we all get there or home safely.

Unfortunately as your travelling in hurricane season then there is always the chance of experiencing one there. Just be prepared as others have said, you may have to stay indoors for a day or two , and u may loose power for a while too, but there used to major storms and hurricanes in Florida so plenty information will be available on the news channels to keep u right

Friday flights should be ok storm expected to hit Sunday/ Monday. Plus the villa should be vacated, Sunday / Monday flights might see a problem and even if you get there the property may still have guests in due to them not being able to leave🤔so be prepared for that it also depends where the hurricane makes landfall as people on the coast will evacuate coastal areas and go inland. Filling hotel rooms👍

Add plastic bags and tape to waterproof things like medicines and documents. Also toilet roll / tissues and wet wipes. Also camping meals if you can find them. Bass pro shops or any surplus store is a good bet.

In all the years of ownership and annual worries Irma has been the only one that really came close.
Your villa should have torches and a 1st aid kit.
As said just stock up on water etc.
Good luck

We were there for Irma. We had to cancel the Gulf Coast part of our trip. We were at Disney when it hit. Stayed in room but everything was fine and we were well looked after.
Walmart shelves were empty and queuing up for water. We had so much food and water you would have thought we were going to be in our room for weeks.
Think it was worse for family and friends at home watching on tv than it was for us☺️

Lot of good information, op, as your staying in a villa, there should be a handbook in the house with a page which details what to do in a hurriance with key contacts.

I would suggest you should try and get your rental car in the villa garage if at all possible.

Decide on a safe room in the villa which has no windows, but does have a simple escape route.

Go out to the pool area and bring inside all the patio furniture into the garage and anything which is not bolted down.

You want to reduce chance of anything moving and smashing windows or ripping the pool lannia.
