Utah and Disneyland
Wondering if anyone has tried to do the Utah big 5 alongside a Disneyland trip?
Thinking of going Salt lake city - Moab - Capitol Reef - Bryce - Zion - Vegas - Anaheim or Vegas - Zion - Bryce - CR - Moab - GCNP -overnight somewhere - Anaheim or something else you'd recommend? Thinking 16-18nights, with probably 5 being in Anaheim so we get 3 Disney days (we did 5 last year) and 1 KBF as we didn't go there last time We've already done Vegas and Grand Canyon National Park, so don't really need to hit them or spend a long time there, it's just trying to make a loop out of it

Hi can I toss a spanner , have you considered Yellowstone. We flew into Denver and then a short early morning flight to Bozeman, we then drove about an hour to the north east entrance and entered via the beartooth pass 11,000 ft. Just amazing place, and a snow ball fight on the 1 st of July. The park itself is 50/60 miles across but after watching so many wildlife programmes and seeing a heard of about 500 bison it’s one of the things we will never forget.

Thanks both fo you, we are tempted by Yellowstone but it was trying to fit it in with somewhere else, it didn't really cross my mind to fly between areas rather than driving

Info the drive from Yellowstone to salt lake city 4.5 hours ? .
On our trip after Yellowstone we drove cross country over 2 days including stopping to play golf, to lake Tahoe. Suggest you get a map on screen and just check timings for the places you have mentioned, typically 3/4 hour drives are the norm on these type of trips.Any question just ask. |

We did basically what you’re proposing in 2014 over roughly 3 weeks.
Our itinerary was Huntingdon Beach - Zion - Bryce - Torrey overnight to visit capitol Reef - Moab (Arches and Canyonlands) - monument valley - page - Grand Canyon - Disneyland. We spent 1-2 nights in most places, but 3 days at Disney at the end. We covered a lot of ground and the drives to and from LA were particularly long, but we loved it - so much we’re doing Bryce, Zion and Arches again this year as we felt we’d have liked more time there.

Thanks for the info, would you recommend just the 1 night for Capitol Reef, guessing as it isn't on your next trip? and how long would you say was ideal for Moab?
It's a debate now of whether we try and do as much as we can in just under 3 weeks, as any more would need special permission from work, or whether we do separate 2 trips.

We are actually stopping at the same place (Broken Spur inn) for a night this time round to break up the drive and revisit capitol reef. We found spending a couple of hours there en route elsewhere was fine for us, our regrets were not spending longer at Bryce and Arches.
We only did 1 night at Moab last time but given how close it is to Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse, we’re doing 3 this time.
