Hakone for the day from Tokyo?

Has anyone done this as just a day trip from Tokyo?
Is it worth going to and can you definitely see mt Fuji regardless of the time of year/weather etc? Looks lovely but would have to change itinerary around again!

There are day trips you can book and I have seen YouTube videos of people doing it as a day trip.

I gather Fuji-San is very shy and often hidden wherever you are!

Thanks Gill, I will have a look into it more and may need to tweak my itinerary a bit!

We did it last year. Did not book any specific trip - we just took the train to the relevant stop then you buy the ticket at the station which then gives you “free” transport on everything which takes you round Hakone. We loved our trip there but we did not see Mt Fuji - not a glimpse!

The scenery is beautiful and it’s a great day out. If you do go don’t miss the outdoor sculpture/art gallery. I’m not into art as such but this place was beautifully landscaped and really interesting. You can steep your feet in a channel filled with water from the hot geisers.

You will travel around Hakone on a narrow gauge train, aerial rope way, buses and a pirate ship!

We wanted to do this last year when we were in Tokyo, however we decided it was a bit too far for a day trip given we were based near Tokyo Disney Resort. Incidentally, we stayed at the Hilton Tokyo Bay in a Bay view room and we got great views of Mt Fuji every morning and evening around sunrise/sunset, it disappeared during the day though!

Sounds lovely, just need to weigh up if it’s worth losing a day somewhere else for it though?

That’s amazing! I’d be happy to see it just once to be honest.

That’s the problem - you can’t do everything. For us, travelling to Japan was all about seeing Japan and not Disney (why bother travelling that far when you can just go to Florida but that’s just us and not a criticism). I completely understand if you have children with you as that changes things. We did go to DisneySea as that’s a one off but we did not bother with Tokyo Disney as we would rather see the country.

It all depends on what you want to see the most and decide from there. We really wanted to go on a day trip to Nikko but in the end we did not make it. Hopefully we will get there next May.

It’s definitely Challenging to fit it all in... hope you get to go next May to Nikko. That’s not somewhere I’ve looked at yet either! We are big Disney fans so that’s a priority for us and we plan on 4 full days.
