Upgrade Flights or Upgrade Hotel?
We are currently booked for July 2021 to stay at Caribbean Beach Resort in a standard 5th sleeper room.
Myself and my boyfriend went in 2019 and were planning on going again in September 2020 but Corona had different plans! When our trip got cancelled we decided to re-book and planned for July 2021 (I work in a school so now restricted by term dates). We have been having conversations about maybe treating ourselves to something as our 2020 trip was cancelled and we were either looking at upgrading our flights to premium economy or 'upgrading' our hotel, both come out at the same price. In terms of the upgrade, it would be moving to a standard room in Grand Destino Tower. So, my question is what would you do? Would you upgrade your flights to premium and stay at CBR or would you stay in economy but move to Grand Destino Tower? We're leaning more towards upgrading the flights but wanted to see others opinions

To me it’s simple maths, you spend 18 hours on the flight approximately, what do you spend in your room in 2 weeks. I have seen the seats in pe on virgin and they did look nice, but if you can do economy I would upgrade your room.

I personally would upgrade the hotel, after all, the flight only lasts 8 hours but you'll benefit from your Hotel upgrade for your whole stay 😉

We would have to go from a 2 queen bed to a 1 king bed at Grand Destino if we were to swap hotels as they have no 2 queen beds available for our dates

I would upgrade the flights - you usually get more luggage allowance - which means more shopping . But also I go to my room to shower and sleep but in the flight I would really appreciate more space and comfort. Flight for me - hotel just need to be clean and have a bed

Being in the tower is closer to ammineities but cb has the skyliner? It does depend how much time you will be spending in the hotel. CSR is a really lovely hotel though! Personally I'd pick a hotel upgrade but would think about having the extra transport to the parks option, especially at busy times of the year if you need to go to park openings. If the extra choice of transport doesn't bother you, upgrade your hotel. 9 hrs in a nicer plane seat Vs coming back to a nicer hotel for the duration of your stay?

We stayed at POR in 2019 (before room upgrades) and loved it but wasn’t in the room very often. The only thing that makes me lean more towards taking the flight upgrade is the fact that if we move to CSR we’ll lose the second bed (we both like to stretch out when we’re on holiday!) and we’d lose the sky liner which I feel we’d really make use off to get to Epcot or Hollywood Studios early

We would be flying premium with British Airways (not trusting Virgin at the moment with their refunds so don’t want to take the risk)

Definitely the flight for me because I couldn’t manage 9 hours in economy.
You’ve already got a decent hotel and as others have said, we don’t usually spend much time in them anyway. Tough decision but a nice one ! |
