Mobile DNA ant and dec anyone done it?

Ah that show was excellent, enjoyed both evenings and every emotion. So pleased to see them.

Which got me thinking has anyone had their dna ancestry tested? Fascinated, particularly as an adopted child so my family tree is a real mystery anyway!

Yes, my husband did recently and found out his dad was irish, it put us in contact with a niece but nothing really came from it.

Yes, apparently I have Norwegian/Russian and Finnish ancestry which must be from many generations back, with a dab from the Iberian peninsula.
This would probably explain the colour of my eyes and I would like to think my fascination with Scandinavia!
The English part of it was pretty spot on demographically.
I haven't pursued it via the website which matches you with relatives though.

Ahhhr that’s interesting, I really fancy doing it to find out where I came from (adopted) but really don’t want any strangers turning up on my doorstep/ contacting me at all - so i guess from your post I can be safe ?

You don't have to pursue it any more than the DNA test, I have looked at the 'relatives' some of which are private just out of curiosity , but I have not had anyone contact me and I did mine two years ago.

And Im not bothered about contacting them , mine was just to see where my colouring came from as I have very distinctive eyes and have often been told I look Scandinavian bare in mind that if your real parents are on there you will be told its a direct match

One of my best friends is adopted and has been searching for her birth father for 30 years. She has had so many ups and downs, upset and grief. It's a little harder for her as she was born in Australia, so her searches have been quite tricky. She has come across more dead ends than you would think possible, even thinking she had found 2 brothers, but a DNA test disproved this.

Earlier this year, she uploaded her DNA onto Ancestry, got a definite match for her father. She has since been out to meet him, and her 4 new sisters. Utterly life changing 💞

Yes but just out of interest. Bought a double one as a little treat for me & my husband a good few years ago. Very interesting & pretty much matched what we knew already. Xx

I saw a YouTube video of a set of identical twins who both did one with 23andMe a few months ago and it’s made me quite sceptical about the accuracy of some of these tests. Their results weren’t exactly the same with their ancestry which obviously they should be.

I did it because my daughter and I were fascinated with mitochondrial DNA and wanted to see where on the planet our tribes had traveled and migrated from.

Aside from that I also found out who my birth father was and that I'm half American and not as my mother had told me Norwegian.

The scope of my mother's deception was/is breathtaking and life-changing in a way.

Unbelievable but I'm really happy I know now I've come to terms with it.
