I always say that the worst part of driving in Florida is trying to get out of Gatwick onto the motorway when coming home. There’s a beast of a roundabout before getting onto the M23 and I feel I’m risking my life when pulling onto it, it’s like the dodgems.

We used Uber for that journey, the problem with fare estimates is there not always 100% correct.
With Uber you have Surge pricing and this can increase a $10 fare to $18 or even higher its that easy.
Yes you can wait for the surge to drop but if you need to get from A to B at a time when demand is high unfortunatey you pay the higher price.

I have not used Lyft but do believe they have a surge in prices also

Current Uber estimate is
UberX
$21.82
Comfort
$27.39
UberX Car Seat
$29.82

Sample rider prices are estimates only and do not reflect variations due to discounts, traffic delays, or other factors. Flat rates and minimum fees may apply. Actual prices may vary.

Not sure if it was my perfectly honed negotiation skills or the wine, but DH has agreed to hire a car!

Thanks to you all for your help and advice x

Excellent news. Was some of your success down to the "we always hire a car" Dibbers? You must let us know how it goes.

You'll be wanting to know all about the restaurants at Rolling Oaks that you can easily drive to now then?

Mick

He will love it. I have driven 8 times now in Florida - much better than here. Can't wait to go back in December. Use the shortcut thru florence grove as it saves a load of time going to Disney, etc. Stayed at Hampton Lakes, Tuscan pines, etc
