Isn't it the landlords responsibility?

OP. I remember you asked about a huge crack about a year ago on this property.
Sad to say they are cheap common bricks which are fine when dashed. However the only thing to sort this out is to galvanize mesh the whole area and render again then dash with the finish of choice. Rainbow is about the nicest looking one. Big job and not cheap. It cost me over £5K just for the front of my house. Scaffolding is the big cost as is labour. Materials aren't that expensive.

If the landlord is just going to leave it as it is,I think I would be looking for somewhere else to live.

The landlord gets very bad tempered if he has to spend any money on maintenance.
There is no chance he will pay for new render. Would it be worth putting a waterproof sealant on ? Would this stop the bricks and mortar crumbling more ? |

That would be a half decent temporary job. However why would anybody do that on behalf of an uncaring Landlord.
If he wont do anything externally and it's his asset that is becoming devalued then he is a nut case. Leave him to it. As long as the interior is up to scratch and he keeps on top of internal maintenance and the necessary inspections ref gas etc I wouldn't bother.

You are absolutely right Tom but she has lived there 30 years and has spent thousands on the property.
I guess the landlord knows that if he ignores maintenance for long enough she'll do it herself. You should see the state of the guttering. Any major jobs he says he has no money. |
