Orlando Solar Bears are what is called Minor League Hockey here. We have a team near us in Cincinnati called the Cyclones. They are in the same league as the Bears. They are 2 levels below the NHL (National Hockey League - Tampa Bay Lightning). It's a fun family friendly atmosphere. Tickets, food, drink, are alot less than NHL, but the players aren't making that much yet so lower prices. There are also usually on ice promotions to encourage crowd involvement.

If you've never been to an NHL game then I would make the journey over to Tampa to see the Lightning (if they're at home that is). They are one of the NHL's top teams at the moment and have a fantastic roster. The standard is much higher that the Solar Bears, although that standard is pretty high compared to the hockey in the UK. They're at home to the Boston Bruins on January 31st 2017 - if that should be in your timescale.
