Advice on Wheelchair at airport

Hi I am booked to travel in June with BA - Glasgow - Gatwick - MCO.

Does anyone know the procedure for fold-able wheelchairs at the airport? Do I need to check it in and pay for it as additional luggage? Can I use it for the long walk from airport security to the departure gate?

Any advice much appreciated

No additional payment is needed for wheelchairs. We usually hand the Wheelchair in at gate, & take the cushion on board with us. If you wait until the plane has offloaded the, wheelchair is bought up to the plane doors for you.

Thank you Ian, I might just put it in the hold rather than wait til the plane has offloaded. Its for my son who can walk, just not very far before having to stop /rest. Im concerned about stories of nearly 2 hours getting through immigration so id imagine that last off the plane and at the end of the queue wont help!

Cheers

Actually you're better off taking it to the gate. If you book special assistance (with Virgin anyway) and have a chair on arrival (either yours or one of theirs) then when you get to immigration there is a special queue on the right hand side for wheelchairs. We've been off the plane last and still got through immigration, picked up car and arrived at Disney in about an hour from landing. Still while it has its perks I would just say I'd gladly stand in immigration for 2/3 hours if it meant my son didn't need to use a wheelchair. I'm sure you feel the same.

phone ba and let them know you are taking your own chair. at checkin at glasgow they will ask if you want your chair at gatwick. you dont need it as they have like electric golf carts that take you from the plane to a waiting area and then on to the departure plane. when you get to mco just sit in yor seat untill the everyone is off the plane and there will be someone waiting for you at the plane door with either your own chair or one of theres.
