confused - stupid question about DVC

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
I understand you buy points (for a home resort)
So say you bought 75 points and it was 75 points per week for your resort.

Can you only book a 1 week holiday per year?

Sorry I am

You can use up to 3 years points in one year if you want, but that means using last years banked points, your current years points and all of next years points borrowed. That means going only once (using all your points) in 3 years.

Hope that makes sense.

So if we wanted 2 weeks a year we would buy 2 x 75 points.
Or

Buy 75 points and go for 2 weeks every other year ?

Yes that's it. You need to know how many points you will want each year. Different resorts = different points. If you only intend to go once every two years, buy half the points. Every three years, one third of the points. Best advice, buy where you want to stay. It's getting increasingly hard to swap at 7 months. You need the 11 month booking advantage.

It's entirely flexible, We considered getting enough points to do every other year to begin with then buying an extra contract further down the line but then our contract came up which was a REALLY good deal to us with enough points to go yearly so snapped that up. In general lower point contracts have the advantage of being much easier to sell on and for a much higher price per point... Downside to that low point contracts tend to be more expensive to buy also.

75 points isn't enough to do anything. We have 100 and that's a push! The most we've managed is 8 nights in a studio at the lowest-priced season. We're also continuously borrowing from the following year, so we really need to take a year off to catch up, or buy another 100 points!

We're hoping to get some more points from a reputable resaler later this year - but it will have to be somewhere like OKW or AKL as they're the cheapest.

Wombat, start reading the DVC specific forums and blogs. As well as here, Disboards, dvc info, dvc news, Mouse owners.Watch dvc videos on YouTube. Spend six months reading everything you can on DVC before buying in. Then you are an informed buyer, and likely to make the correct choices.
Re your specific questions go on David's DVC rental and he has a brilliant tool showing you exactly how many points you need for the resort, type of accommodation and travel dates.
