Large Points Rental

Having sold our DVC's a few years ago, we have decided that for my 50th in a few years time,we are going to stay onsite. As we will want two bedroom units, we are looking at a large number of points and we want to rent them.

Will we be better off going to a company like Davids DVC rental (?) or should we be able to get them relatively easily on here? I think we would need about 500 points for each week at AKL and BW.

I'd be surprised if you can find an owner on here who has that many points for rental and if they did they might not want to take the "risk" with such a large amount of money.

I've used David's to rent out my points and they are very good You would probably have more chance of finding a larger number of points to rent from them but the downside for you would be that you'd have to pay for your rental in US$ which isn't ideal when the exchange rate is so poor.

Thanks Fiona.

Regarding the 'risk' isn't the risk my end anyway? I thought the full amount would be paid up front?

As its a few years away, I am hoping that the exchange rate will have improved somewhat by then.

Thanks for your reply.

There is an element of risk for the renter if you had to cancel 30 days or less before check-in. Assuming you would be looking for a full refund the renter would then be left with all those points sitting in a holding account.

When I rented our points out last year, I made it clear that the booking couldn't be cancelled or refunded.

Exactly I can't imagine why any DVC member renting privately would allow for cancellation.

I didn't think it was possible to cancel for a refund either.

I would have lost my borrowed points in the event of someone cancelling on me so decided to rent them out through David's rather than enter into a private agreement. I wanted as stress free a transaction as possible and it made more sense to get paid in dollars

I don't think I'd do a private rental again as it was so easy using David's -especially while the exchange rate works in the owner's favour
