Scoliosis
My 11yr old daughter has scoliosis and though not severe her back tend to ache after to much walking or standing for long periods of time.
was thinking of hiring a wheelchair maybe for park days? Is this possible to do this at customer relations at each park? Any advice from any other parents with children who have scoliosis is welcome Edited at 07:37 PM. |

There are wheelchairs to rent at the entrance to each park but it might be more cost effective to rent one independently for the fortnight

I think you used to be able to hire one free of charge from British Red Cross in Uk for short periods. Depending on how bad she may be it may be worth ringing special assistance with your airline to see if they can make adjustments to make flight easier. X

Hi! My DD17 has scoliosis. We have a 16'' seat Karma lightweight wheelchair which we bought second hand & take with us each time, you can lift it with one hand its that light, and takes up next to no space in the car! Saved us loads on renting by taking our own, even with just one visit. If you want advice on scoliosis, I would really recommend joining the scoliosis society, great forum on there for parents & youngsters themselves, with loads of advice

My DD consultant advised only to look at the Official scoliosis society website & read nowhere else as you know what the internet can be like! Also, my DD currently goes on every single roller coaster & ride! Her Consultant advised that the warning signs at rides with regards to 'back problems' are only really aimed at people who have back injuries or have had any surgery that need to be careful, hence why this is our last visit before she has the Op, as we will need to bypass a few in the future

Yes lots of different opinions online!
Were based in Portugal and our consultant has been fantastic my DD is very happy to hear she should be ok to go on most rides! Can I ask you if it's worth asking for a DAS card? I have a letter from the consultant, thanks for your advice |

As some people say, if she uses a wheelchair they tend to say it's all accessible BUT if like with scoliosis, sometimes sitting isn't always a good option, coupled with the problems or aches she gets when standing then my advice is to explain those difficulties & you may get a DAS to help you won't need a letter as law out there states they can't ask for proof of disability etc
