UPDATE - Guinea pig health - some advice please

I’ve just cleaned out our piggies and found that one had a little fresh blood on her bottom, I’ve cleaned her up and she doesn’t appear to still be bleeding.

I’ve never seen this before and I’m sure we’d have noticed as she’s all white.

I’ve just given her a good check over and she has two lumps on her tummy, about 5p sized, that I’m sure weren’t there yesterday as her checked her over when I got her out as I always do.

She seems absolutely fine in herself other than being hot and laying flat on her tummy to try to cool down, but they’re both doing that.

I’ll be phoning the vet in the morning but I was just wondering if anybody else had any experience with guinea pigs that could offer and advice. These are the first Guiana pigs we’ve had.

Can’t offer any advice , just hope that she is ok .
Might be wise to take her to the vets tomorrow.
My guinea pigs are laying flat on their tummy’s trying to keep cool.
One went blind in one eye a few weeks ago & doing ok .

UPDATE - wow I hadn’t realised just how expensive treatment would be.

Just back from vet who checked piggy over. She wasn’t worried at all about the blood but was concerned about the lumps. She found three after having a good poke around.

Gave us two options, 1 - test the lumps before deciding what to do - £140 or 2 - remove them straight away - £350 😱 and today’s consultation cost £30 on top of that.

I’ve booked her in to have them removed in the morning as I thought that would be the best option. If we waited for test results they could come back and say they need removing anyway so that would still be another £350 to pay. As they’ve appeared so quickly and there are three they can’t be good in my opinion so best to get them out ASAP instead of waiting. The vet did say she didn’t think they felt like fatty lumps.

Hopefully she’ll do ok with the anaesthetic tomorrow and recovery won’t be too traumatic for her.

My OH keeps piggies (lots of them) and I agree - the vet bills are always an ouch.

Hope everything goes ok with yours. It's amazing how attached you get to them.

Thanks all.

Our piggies are very vocal, they can here rustling and veggie chopping even when the windows and doors are shut 😂 I’m hoping they’ll not be too upset that we need to keep them separate. Vet said ten days whilst stitches heal.
