2-part booking... HELP!
Hi all - having stayed on-site last year for the first time in 7 trips, we’re in early planning stages to go back next year for the last 2 weeks in August.
We definitely want to stay on-site again and take advantage of Free Dining, as it really worked for us last year. We’d love to go back to POFQ but it’s not a ‘must’. We’re looking to keep the cost down to a manageable level, but and are hoping to stay for the first 2-4 nights in Endless Summer, followed by Coronado Springs/Caribbean Beach/POFQ - depending on price. We’re looking at prices through Disney, and the figures look ok, but I’m looking for advice on booking. We’d like to pay a deposit through Disney and book with them, followed by booking a ‘package’ in September when the flights are officially released - hopefully getting a bargain! - and get the 2-4 nights at Endless Summer plus flights then. Am I correct in thinking that if we did this, then I’d just need to pay a deposit on THIS part of the trip, as a ‘package’, instead of having to pay the full amount like we’d have to if we just booked the flights? And if anyone has actually done this, who did you use, and did you have any difficulty doing so? Aargh! I thought we were pretty savvy Disney travellers, but there’s always a new way to stress over Disney! Help please! Edited at 06:09 PM. |

Very interesting question!
I'm sure that if you book hotel and tickets (for free dining) that you only need to pay deposit. Presumably you can then book the remaining hotel/flights at a later date, also as a package for deposit - although I've never done this bit. Hopefully someone who has done this will come along with better/more definite info!

I booked a Disney hotel and tickets, got free dining for last year and definitely only paid a deposit. I booked flights separately.
The possible issue for you comes in when you add in flights because your flight won't match your start date at Disney. I have always found flights to be expensive with Disney I would rather book direct with the airline. Endless summer looks amazing, but do consider its location and the bus transfer and where at Universal the bus pick up is. We are staying at Cabana bay but know there is no water taxi, so either we walk back to the hotel, or walk all the way through Citywalk to the garages for bus pick up.

Word of warning, virgin holidays would not let you book flights and hotel if they are not providing more than 50% of your accommodation or you get a car (so a fly drive really). Last year we booked flights and 3 nights in hard rock with virgin holidays, but they wouldn’t let us do the same thing this year. They said that they have changed their policy! Plenty of other TAs though!
