Oh really?! I only opened the online saver on 3/4/19, looks like I was just in time then! That's a shame as the 2 accounts together work well.

As is the norm, some tar them all with the same brush insurer-bashing mixed in with some comments that apply a more balanced approach to what insurance is actually there to do. In the same way as an insurer is not going to be expected to insure a house already on fire or a car already damaged, they will not automatically take on cover for someone who has or is suspected of having medical problems. If they do then they may ask for a premium that reflects the risk WE want them to take on. Saying insurers will use slightest thing not to pay a medical bill is a lazy generalisation and simply not true. As with all industries, it has its cowboy outfits and some Dibbers may well have poor personal experiences but sweeping statements like that serve no purpose. I handled travel claims for 15 years and managed company relationship with their medical assistance companies in Europe and N America for most of these. At no time in my job description or the contracts we had with external providers was weaseling out of paying valid claims a target! Any decisions made to reject a medical claim on medical grounds would be based on medical advice from medical professionals not wee Jimmy or Jeanie sitting in the Claims department with no medical knowledge. I really hope that some cover can be found and the trip goes ahead.

Hiya

Thank you all so much for your replies and help and advice.

Sorry I have not been able to get back to you, but I have had computer troubles and unable to get access.

I am back.

I have managed to secure a cancellation appointment for my son for Tuesday next week so hopefully this help as to whether we are going to be able to travel or not.

just to clarify, we had annual multi trip cover in place with pre-existing conditions listed. The top and tail of it is if you have a holiday planned and you need or a member of your family needs to see a Dr depending on what the Dr says it could invalidate any insurance you have in place.

I realise now that no travel insurance provider will insure us.

I await Tuesday in anticipation of a good result.

...

To confuse matters even more, yes things do get worse for me - I think this holiday is doomed... however I will tell my story to maybe help others not make the same mistakes I have made...

I booked this holiday on Saturday 13th April, very last minute, because it was such a good deal. Just over £1200 for the four of us flying Thomson Dreamliner with accommodation and transfers for 14 nights. I had ESTA approval before booking. So stupidly thought I was sorted.

You know the problem I had with my son.

Well what I clean forgot about was that on 10th April I had a mammogram.

Like I said the holiday was booked in a very rushed manner and I did not take into account in my head at time of booking about the mammogram. It was only after the problems with my son that I realised the result of the mammogram could affect my insurance too.

I have an enormous list of pre-existing medical conditions and I would not travel without insurance for these conditions.

Mine and my sons health is more important than any holiday, and I realise we as a family are likely to loose the cost of this holiday and my children will be very upset as I told them immediately upon booking that we were going. (we cannot afford to lose this money and the heartbreak it will cause my children is so sad, but I am realistic and I have to see this as an option).

Lessons to be learned are that no matter if you have insurance in place even with pre-existing conditions if you see a Dr for anything and further investigation is needed your cover can (I am no expert here so I am not saying all cases are the same) become null and you will be travelling with no insurance for any pre-existing condition listed.

Thank you once again for your advice everybody. I really appreciate it.

Fingers crossed all round in my house for the next couple of weeks.

I hope it all works out for you. As mentioned, it's not always black and white as to how different insurers will deal with certain scenarios but you are right that the safest option is to be upfront and make them aware.

Thanks for coming back to us to update us. Make sure (I’m sure you will) you speak to the consultant about insurance I’ve found them very willing to go as far as they can to give a diagnosis on the day or at very least provide a letter that the more specialist insurers will at least take into account-May be a slight improvement of “undiagnosed”.

Glad you managed to get your son in for an earlier appointment.
I thought of you today as I too had a phone call this morning saying that they are able to get me in to ENT next Thursday for my Needle Aspiration.
Lets both keep our fingers crossed for an all clear.
Our insurance is due for renewal in May & I already have WDW September & Canada February booked so am in the same situation as you (DH has existing Asthma cover too )

I have previously mentioned that both my DH and I have extensive insurance experience but neither of us have or have ever had any professional relationship with Adrian Flux. This is purely a customer recommendation based upon our experiences when we have had more complex requirements (Dad travelling with cancer, overseas based landlords, unoccupied house).
Thank you, never heard of doing it this way. Funny enough husband has recently did our van insurance with Adrian Flux (as in the last couple of weeks) and he was very happy with the service he received.

So I will await to see what the next week brings in the post from the Mammogram results and my son's ENT appointment.

I am happy (well happy may be a bit of a strong word here ;-)) to pay a higher premium it is travelling with no cover that I am not happy to do especially to America.
