As we always fly into MCO and 90% of the time use Alamo I can't remember the last time that we went within 100 yards of the terminal car hire desk. Mind you, at my age, I sometimes struggle to remember what I had for breakfast.

Straight to the garage and maybe small talk with the barrier attendant whilst they check the bar code, D/L and CC and we're on our way.

I have a simple philosophy on car hire though. There's just the two of us and I can always find a suitable car in the "full size" row. So I book full size, pay for full size and drive off in a full size.

But always having new experiences. Never had a Ford before and how about this for the gear shift in a Fusion.

Mick. All credit to you, the interior still looking clean and tidy after a week of the hire has gone. Well done.

When I used Alamo at Sanford, I was taken over to the cars even though I said I was ok. Then the guy told me how everything worked I did explain to him it’s ok I have rented the same vehicle 3 times and know were everything is and I was ok.
He then said that they work for gratuity, I said sorry got no money changed.
I was one of the first out after baggage claim.
Don’t mind tipping for service as others have pointed out but not for nothing, it put me of Alamo a bit first time I had anybody ask for a tip at Sanford car hire.

Be aware that the Sanford tipping scenario doesn’t work now, neither do the guys who gave upgrades for tips!

Wonder why?

I have rented cars at many airports all over the US and have never tipped nor have I ever heard of the person who takes you to your car to "be working for gratuity." All those positions are paid (usually hourly) and some companies pay commission for products sold (extra insurance). Magic Mouse, I think someone was trying to get some money from you.

Sound like we weren’t the only ones then when flying to Sanford. At least it sounds like it’s not the case anymore.

Flying to MCO this time so also sounds as though it’s not something experienced there anyhow.

Thanks everyone.

This was definitely a thing when I first started renting cars in Florida. First with Lindos and then Dollar. Guys were literally lurking around for tourists to help with luggage and car controls, definitely for tips.
