Cancelling and getting taxes back?

Anyone know what the position is regarding repayment of APD if I choose to cancel my flights that were due to take place on Saturday?

A voucher is no good to me but the tax element of my flight is more than double the flight element.

Part of the taxes and fees you see in the breakdown isn’t refunded.
I cancelled a £280 Virgin flight to Dubai a few years ago, I got back about £90 after they took their cancellation fee (about £30 I think).

If I shell £1,200 for to us to fly to the west coast and that flight is cancelled under the present climate I expect £1,200 back or don't I get it.

I booked with Expedia. I think my chances of getting a refund from them are slim to none.

Yes, I know legally they have to refund me but they probably aren't going to; which is why my thoughts turned to the taxes.

I booked with BA.

Within 8 or so days of my request, I received my whole £1755.82 back on my card.
This included all APD and also my seat reservations that had been booked separately and at a later date.

Exemplary service BA, and this suggests that EVERYTHING is repayable and in my case, with no admin charges.

If you cancel the flight they charge you and you sometimes get tax back, if THEY cancel your flight they have to pay you back ( officially).

The companies don’t have the money due to such large numbers requiring refunds neither does ATOL.
They are offering vouchers to use again in the future.

They have my money, not a deposit but the lot. If they cancel I want it all back to do what I want with it.

I don't want a voucher that I may never use.

This will be my position as well.
They have my money. A voucher with a load of restrictions along with future price hiking and the possibility they will will not survive making the voucher worthless. I will be expecting a full refund as well.

The question is if you cancel a still operating flight then any refund will be under the original terms and conditions, so in theory you are entitled to get any taxes you paid back but the airline may charge a fee to do so. If the airline cancels a flight you are entitled to a full cash refund of everything you have paid.
