Like gold dust now, my DD is a Pescatarian and we have not been able to buy Quorn mince for 3 weeks now.
Protein wise we also don't have meat at every meal, we use lentils a lot and beans. I would say we maybe eat meat 3/4 times a week. Sorry not sure on the costs, when we use lentils to replace meat like in a curry I do 500g red lentils for a family of 6. Works out about 60p.

This made me laugh 😂 I have to hide lentils and quickly add them to meals and stir like mad .whilst I do it I hold my breath in case one of the bloody kids pass through the kitchen ,because if they do I get this “ you’re not adding them round things are you “

I’ve started adding red lentils to bologniase and cottage pie and my fussy daughter didn’t notice so I ventured to chickpeas in a curry and the little madam picked them all out but to be honest it was really nice and filling. Tinned chickpeas are reasonably cheap and will make your chicken go further.
My two are total carnivores too but neither noticed the half packet of quorn mince I mixed in last week to spag Bol 😃 |

I pay quite a lot for our meat/fish it seems.
Chicken is around £8 for 4 but I only buy free range. Bolognese I buy extra lean so about £4 for the mince We have salmon about once a week at £12. We dont have it every meal - sometimes just tomatosauce & pasta, or soup & toasties or eggs & beans.

We are largely vegetarian (have meat /fish maybe once a fortnight, perhaps rarer than that) and our meals are pretty cheap.
Eg tonight, we are having Linda Mc Cartney burgers 4 for £1 (on special mind), homemade chips and salad. So 50p for the protein or £1 if we have 2 each . Last night we had homemade cheese, egg, sausage, cheese, mushroom pasties. Quorn sausages were I think £1.50 for a bag of 8 and we used 4 spread across 6 pasties. So pennies! I generally find the Linda Mc Cartney burger / sausage alternatives much tastier, cheaper and healthier than the meat versions. Her hoi sin duck meal kit is divine - although a real treat at £5! The only time I have meat / fish now is sometimes we treat ourselves to hunters chicken with thigh meat, or salmon fillets. Those meals are always more expensive
