Anyone bored and want to help an idiot with their TV?
Hello everyone. My friend gave me a TV a few weeks ago, as mine is about 14 years old! It's a LG 42CS460 and because of the lockdown I have finally got round to setting it up today.
Now, to say I am an idiot with TV's is an understatement! I didn't even realise that as well as plugging the TV in and attaching it to my indoor aerial that I then had to select auto tune... Anyway, my question is, now it is working is there any way I can watch Amazon Prime on it? I currently watch Amazon Prime on my Ipad so is there a way I can plug my ipad into the TV and watch Amazon Prime? I don't think the TV has the option for an internet connection. If anyone does reply please type slowly, be gentle, and use language that an idiot would understand Many thanks! |

Hi
Well first of all lucky you for someone giving you a TV! I have had a quick look online and although your TV does not appear to have 'screen mirroring' (something that shows exactly what is on your tablet/phone on the TV) - there may be an ethernet connector at the back. Look for a 'hole' that you can put an ethernet cable in (your router will have 2/3 of these so you can see what one looks like) and connect this direct to your router - that will allow you to access Netflix, Amazon Prime etc on your TV. If your TV does not have one of these I am not sure you watch amazon prime |

Any TV can easily be internet compatible if you get Fire TV stick, now TV box etc (other brands are available 😂
The fire stick would enable you to download apps such as prime video, iPlayer, itv hub, you tube, Netflix etc to stream TV from the internet. Also, because it's connected (via WiFi) to your internet you can usually ' cast' videos from your phone or iPad to the TV. |

Thank you so much both of you! I don't have a space for an ethernet connector, but I will look into getting a fire stick.
And yes, I am very lucky to be given a TV - I have wonderful friends |

I agree with Ivegottadream, you will need some sort of add on to make it a smart tv, although I recommend a Roku. It has Netflix, amazon, YouTube, plus all catch up channels, and much easier to navigate. Ive even managed to teach my 72 year old aunt to use it, especially easy with the voice recognition. I felt that the nowtv plug in was really clunky to use. Rokus are around £25

OP. I think it's Mazbar on here who works with aerials and TV's.
If I am right give him a shout.

That model is not a smart TV so would.need an external device plugging in.
A Fire stick would make the most sense. It plugs into an HDMI port and can be powered either from the USB port on some TV's or via a power adaptor that comes with it. You then connect it to your WiFi network which needs to be at least 3Mbit which most are these days. From the Amazon app store you can also get other entertainment apps like Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc. |

Looking at the specs on the LG website your TV has an HDMI port so you can plug in any device that uses HDMI whether its a laptop, chromecast or fire stick.
