EU261 still v much in place. I’d be happy to accept voucher if EU says so and is prepared to underwrite the voucher should the airline go bust anyway.

I definitely missed that.
Worth a look at this Head For Points article from today. It says the EU has rejected the proposal to be able to only offer vouchers. They can offer then but must refund if requested

Yeah, got this completely wrong, leaving it up as a record against posting while on conference calls.

The charlatans at KLM having been claiming that they don’t have to pay refunds based on parts of EU261 that literally don’t exist!

They are backed by the Dutch government to not give refunds so they won’t care if anyone takes it further.

I thought that if flights were cancelled then the law was that they had to give refunds, only other circumstances gave the option of vouchers.
Maybe its different as they are not a British company

It doesn’t matter at all as they fall under EU legislation and ultimately regardless of support of the Dutch government EU261 would apply if you decided to take court action through what is commonly referred to as small claims court.

It is, and they acknowledge that refunds are an entitlement, but they have been given the go ahead from the Dutch Gov to refuse refunds and offer only vouchers. They will not budge on this.

Even though I know might not suit some but Delta have started offering a 2 year expiry on their vouchers so hopefully more airlines will follow
