Mobile China and free visa?

Hi all,

I’m really sorry if this is me being really stupid, but I can’t get my head around the 144 hour free visa!

I’m wanting to have 3 days in Shanghai followed by 3 days in Beijing (we would be stopping in Hong Kong beforehand and Tokyo afterwards) - would this be possible under the free visa?

Many thanks for any help x

No I do not think your plan will be allowed:

Regions of movement are independently administered, which means that those who have a 144-hour transit visa in Shanghai are NOT permitted to move up into Beijing.

The restricted regions are split up into four parts: 1) Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei; 2) Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang; 3) the Liaoning province (Dalian & Sheyang); 4) Guangdong province. You must arrive, move about and depart all within the same region and have documents showing travel tickets onward to a third country.

(Please do read more into it but that's the summary and conclusion that I have come to so far from reading online).

Thank you so much for your reply 👍- I admit that that was kind of how I was reading it in the end, I guess I was just hoping I’d misunderstood it as it’s not the clearest thing to read! 😂
