Staying near old town and fun spot?

Hello visited old town years ago (approx 1995!) as a kid and remember really enjoying it however have not visited since. With the rising cost of Disney onsite properties Iv made a booking to split our stay and move off-site within walking distance to old town (Staybridge royal parc)- just wondered if anyone has any experience of the area now? Is it still ok and most importantly safe to walk around in the early evening etc? Any good family restaurants?

We've stayed twice in Cane Island about 1 mile west from Old Town. There were plenty eateries around there and it was a pleasant stay. However, that was in 2011 and things may have changed.

We stayed in regal oaks 3 times and have loved it. Its walking distance to old town and we foundcitcreally safe.

Stayed next door to fun spot in Serlago
some decent food nearby,liked Charleys steak house, Logans road house plus the usually cheaper dennys and fast food plus a Chinese buffet thats ok

We stayed celebration suites next to old town and had no problem I was out all hours

Comfort Suites is right behind FunSpot, and a lovely suite hotel. We have stayed there many times in the past. Absolutely safe and a couple of restaurants within walking distance.
