Yay Claudette your report has made me happy!
Though your Sofitel experience has made me unhappy I haven’t stayed here lately but have had wonderful food and drink over the years, and your reporting frankly made it sound really poor. I hope things are now looking up - enjoy DLP

I thought the chicken breast looked a bit small and pathetic, but Nev said it was very nice so I will let them have some credit for that.
We are repeat Sofitel guests, have stayed numerous times at both Gatwick and Heathrow and the experience yesterday was way below what we are used to. It has always been a lovely start to the holiday previously. Thank you. |

Jour de voyage - part ii) lunch and dinner
I had not been able to get either a lunch or a dinner reservation for today, so we had planned to try one or two of the non bookable places today. But DLP is very busy and queues are out of the door and round the block at most places, including just shops!
Nev wasn’t too fussed about lunch after his two breakfasts earlier but I started to get peckish mid afternoon. The best we could manage was a cheesy pretzel from a stand near Planet Hollywood. It doesn’t look like much but was a really lovely pretzel and cost €4.50. With queues being so bad, I decided to keep checking back to see if any dinner reservations became available and eventually was able to book Plaza Gardens for 7pm. This is a buffet restaurant, back to full self service and was pretty busy. We both started with a place of salad and cold meats and I had a small bowl of pumpkin soup as well. We then moved onto the mains, the first two plates are Nevs, he enjoyed the veal casserole so much from his first plate that he went back for another. My plate has the fish on it, after I had plated it up, I changed my mind about fish when they brought out a fresh tray of chicken, hence the odd combination. We don’t often eat dessert but I wanted to try them out so we picked a selection. I sneakily wrapped a couple of mine up to have in the room later. We thought this was a decent buffet and enjoyed most things on our plates. It cost €36 each including one soft drink, which is not a cheap dinner in absolute terms, but it does appear to be reasonable compared to DLP food prices generally. |

My DD loved that cheesey pretzel from the stand too. It was warm and yummy.
A shame it's so busy, I hope you're having a good time, enjoying the attractions.

Trying hard to change my mindset to make the best of it. Yesterday I thought, well we will make the most of a late night and hotel guest early hours and take a break during the day. I need to rethink that plan.
We have been here for three hours today including an early hour for hotel guests and have managed to get on the carousel, Tower of Terror and Ratatouille through the single rider line. We left Disneyland Park before the early hour was even finished because there was literally nothing open except the carousel. We have left both parks and gone to Disney Village for a quick coffee and snack at Starbucks. I need this. |

Having read your other thread - if it was me I would be nipping into Paris for a relaxed lunch by the Seine.

Duexieme jour
Our main meal of the day was our planned lunch at Captain Jacks, a pirate themed restaurant that the Pirates of Caribbean ride runs alongside at one point.
We turned up ten minutes early and were quickly attended to and escorted to our table. We didn’t have a table adjacent to the water, but we were only one table back and were happy with that. As we weren’t having much luck getting anything done in the parks, we decided to have a leisurely two course lunch. There is a reasonably priced three course fixed price menu, but the limited options were not what we would have chosen and we didn’t want a third course at all, so instead we chose off the more expensive a la carte section. I started with the Caribbean guacamole and root vegetable salad and Nev had the white tuna cerviche. For mains, I had the oven baked mahi mahi and Nev chose the smoked suckling pig with aubergine and squash. We started with a couple of mocktails, the Virgin Lada which was like a Pina Colada and the Virgin Planteur which I am not sure what cocktail it resembled but it tasted like tangy sweets. It was very dark in the restaurant and no flash on my iPad so apologies for the poor photos. Cocktails Starters Mains We enjoyed our lunch at Captain Jacks, it cheered us up and I would even say it saved the day which had got off to such a frustrating start. The mocktails were very nice, I wouldn’t really want my mocktail to taste like Haribo, but thankfullly mine was the pina colada one and Nev was happy with his sweet flavour beverage. The starters were good, although both too large, they should probably be about two thirds of the size, mine was probably a bit too tart as well, but not a major complaint. Nev was extremely pleased with his suckling pig main. I was satisfied with my fish, the sauce was pleasant but it wasn’t anything that would leave me wondering how they did it, I am confident I could rustle up similar at home with very little trouble. I really liked the decor and ambience of the restaurant and the service was excellent. It was a very pricey €135 before tip, but I think it was worth it today. Edited at 11:21 AM. |
