no problem, i own a garage, my labour rate is £35 an hour. but out of that £35 i have rent, insurance, utilities and a host of other outgoings to pay, but people still moan when they're told the amount of the bill.
If i earned £400 a day from tips waiting tables it would be more than i earn for tinkering under someones bonnet.

There are some countries that have banned tipping because highly educated people were leaving jobs such as lawyers, doctors to wait in hotels because with tips their wages were so much higher - it was destroying the economy. I do question if 25% tip would not do similar?

So basically you’re doing the same as your customers then, moaning about the charges while not taking into account the servers have deductions including passing a share of the tip to other non tipped staff. They also do many hours either very low or totally unpaid setting up and clearing down.

Interesting that they think this considering most of the time we find that they can’t tell the nationalities apart….almost like they’re going with the stereotype🙄🤔😂
For the record, despite usually rounding up from 18%, I’ve never really understood why someone serving $100 of food deserves more than another serving $50 for doing the same job

WDW are slowly increasing the servers salaries to $15 ph plus tips. Not too bad I guess.

A tip is discretionary but has been expected and accepted as normal in the USA long before I first set foot in Florida in 1992.

no one works for nothing!
they will/should be paid from clocking on to clocking off and if they're not then that's an issue for them to take up with the employer, or the employment authorities what ever that is in the US.
and in response to me doing the same as what my customers do, no i'm not moaning at the bill being so high, if i thought $42 was to expensive for breakfast then i wouldn't go there, id go to ihop instead,
im airing my opinion about an added extra which is supposed to be discretionary but is now expected.

so its discretionary which is fine, but if you don't tip the expected predetermined amount your frowned upon or in some cases confronted?

Yeah, I’m not pretending it’s a perfect system by any stretch but it’s the only one they have and the only way servers have to get a decent wage. I don’t agree with confrontation or attitude from servers but if people don’t tip at all or enough it’s like someone settling your bill but choosing to adjust your labour rate to £25 an hour because they are under the impression you are making too much.
