Food budget

I feel like i'm now wildly out of touch with budgeting for a Disney trip. I know shopping, extras etc. are more of a how long is a piece of string question, so i'm just thinking about food in WDW here.

2 adults
1 week - all on site.
We like at least 1 table service meal a day - few signature meals (maybe 3), and the rest standard. Not V&A's!
A few quick service meals - 1 a day
A few snacks in the parks

Breakfast and a few lunches we'd have in the room, so we'd pick up a few bits in Disney.

One of us vegan, the other tends to go for juicy steaks!

Is around $300 per day about right? Too much? Too little? 🤔

I would say $300 is more than enough! A signature table service would maybe set you back $200 for 2 people and thats if you order steaks, desserts, alcohol etc!

That leaves $100 for other meals which is MORE than enough. QS meals will set you back about $15 each. Snacks between $4-8 each usually.

I think you could easily budget lower if you need to but it depends what you want to do and if you plan on drinking a lot as I find the alcohol raises the budget massively when a cocktail is usually between $13-18 and beers are around $8-10

$300 too much but like you a bit out of touch! Certainly on your Signature days, $300 could be easily reached but not on normal days. We're budgeting £120/day for 2 of us but very little if any of that will be onsite. We ate quite a bit onsite in '19, when staying for 31 nights, & TBH IMO it's over priced, I think our average for a "1TS" would be around $120 including Tip but that's having starters & not so much dessert unless we shared one. Signature wise we were easily $200 including Tip.

I’m in a similar situation. We are 2 adults staying on site for 14 days in a value. I’ve budgeted £100 a day per person. I made a spreadsheet of breakfast options and the meals I’d choose at table service. This includes:

Breakfast
Snack
Odd few bits for lunch
Table service meal on evening including tips.

We have $18 per day per person from the dining credits offer so that is breakfast and a snack paid for roughly.

We want to do Tusker House for breakfast one day and Be Our Guest for evening meal. We also want a dessert party.

It’s all worked out to around £100 per day on average but I think that’s a good starting point. I can’t see that being much more but If it less, I’ll add on to the souvenir budget 😉

I'd say $300 is reasonable on your signature days, but more like $200 on the other days should be enough. Although if you enjoy alcoholic drinks, I'd probably keep the higher budget to cover those as they add up fast!

My budget for just me is $36 per day plus an extra $80-100 for 2 TS meals. All onsite, no groceries. But this is because I'm trying to stick to the new dining credit amount for fun.

Thanks guys! I don't know why i'm so out of touch, normally i'm good with this stuff! Once I know a figure, I'm great with my mini-spreadsheet on holiday lol.

So, about $200 a day, but shift things around for the non-signature dining days seems like a good start.

To make it more complicated, after my double-charging fiasco with DCL, i'm taking a credit card this time. It doesn't quite have the limit we'd normally spend on holiday, so i'm planning on taking cash too. Possibly cash for the quick service meals would work out.

Good job i'm weird and love spreadsheets 😂

I don’t know how you can have a Disney holiday without a spreadsheet!

Mobile ordering is best for QS now, they don't keep many cash tills open so the queues can get long. But you could put that budget on a prepaid card, that's what I'm doing. Again, just because I'm doing a dining credit challenge for fun so wanted to keep those funds separate.

Got to love a spreadsheet.

Dr JJ is running an excellent food report which includes costs and he is doing some signatures as well as 1TS and QS - might give you some real data

But I agree with what everyone else has said so far

My other dilemma is I'd planned meals on previous cancelled trips at Le Cellier and Coral Reef, and now Space 220 is on that list - that's 3 table service meals at Epcot! I think i'm going to have to choose 2 of them to stick to the budget (2 visits to Epcot planned).

We plan on going back for xmas 2022, so i'm wondering if Le Cellier will be the more "Christmassy" option 😄
