Thank you all so much for your replies and sharing your stories, I appreciate everyone of them ❤️

She has PCOS symptoms like poor skin excess hair etc, but she had no idea she had such a huge cyst, no symptoms of that at all.

Were going to go for a private gynaecologist appointment, hopefully this week and see where we go from there.

Ive checked a local private hospital in Belfast and they have some consultants who specialise in ovarian cyst removal, and they also work for our local health trust so if we see one of them they might be able to give us an approximate wait time under the NHS. If its too long well just have to pay, her mental health couldnt cope with waiting too long.

You know I just feel so sorry for her, she lost her way during her last year at school and has chopped and changed jobs during the last few years. Shes finally discovered what she wants to do as a career (Occupational Therapy) and is half way through an access diploma in Biomedical and Biological sciences, shes doing so well, is really dedicated to her studies, has applied to Uni, has a lovely part time job in Costa and has recently met a lovely man who is being a great support to her.

Her studies are her main concern she has 100% attendance so far and she is worried about falling behind, but theres nothing she can do.

Thank you again to everyone x

I had a large cyst removed from my ovary at 23. I am 50 now so quite a lot will have changed in that time no doubt. I had irregular periods and a lot of pain. I have a low abdominal scar, probably similar to a C section scar about 5 inches long.
I was really worried about future fertility but my other ovary was intact and healthy and the surgeon managed to leave a small amount of the affected ovary. I went on to have two children (now 21 and 16!) and got pregnant very easily both times within a month or two of trying.
Hoping all goes well for your dd.

Shes managed to speak to her GP this morning, the urgent referral time to see a consultant is 8 weeks so hes advised her to go privately if possible.

Hes also arranged for blood tests on Wednesday to check for cancer markers in her blood.

Ive managed to get her an appointment tomorrow evening, we were lucky to get a cancellation as the next one was 22 February.

Ive since spoken to the GP myself and and the consultant shes seeing tomorrow works for our local health trust so hes hoping that once shes seen privately that the consultant will transfer her to his nhs list for urgent surgery

Wow thats a long time to wait, so sad for people not getting seen for other illnesses due to covid.
Just wanted to say if the tumour markers come back high dont automatically assume the worst. Mine were elevated but they said other things can cause them to be high - they are not very specific. They think my miscarriage and subsequent hormone levels could have caused it. You might find PSOS could also cause higher than normal levels without it meaning the worst.

I just also want to say dont worry if cancer markers are elevated, mine were, but the consultant said that it was probably the fact that I had a cyst that was causing it.

Hopefully she wont lose her ovary, but if she does, dont worry. I had a history of infertility and lost a tube to an ectopic pregnancy in my late 30s. I thought it was the end of the road, but I went on to have my miracle baby when I was 40! I did have Clomid, which is a fertility drug, but I fell pregnant on the second month.

Hi, I had a cyst ( dermoid) removed 16 years ago when I was 24, I think it was about 11cm, mine was spotted whilst I was having a c section with my little girl , they waited 6 months after I had her, and opened me back up on my c section scar to remove the cyst. I was told they would do everything they can to save my ovary due to my age, and they did. 3 months after my op, I fell pregnant again! The operation was a big one, and it did take a good few weeks to recover ( couldn't drive for 6 weeks) but I also had a 6 month baby to run around after. Xx
