Hi they just disappeared from my online account. I'm hoping ns&I write to him informing DS of his bonds and holders number.
I get that he'll be legal owner now but if I can't find a paper copy of his holders number then, as I can no longer see his reference on my online account, I can't get him to fill in the ns&I form as it asks for details of account references. I logged in to cash some of my bonds when I noticed but imagine if the account not monitored. Maybe wait until 16 and then your DD can open her own account then you can transfer the money and she can buy them herself. Edited at 09:33 PM. |

Sorry if I'm being thick but do the holder numbers change once they transfer over?

I'm not sure, I would think DS would of had his own allocated but I can no longer check as his account not linked to my online one anymore.
Just wish I'd taken a screen shot last time I logged on before his birthday and then I would know his account number and value of bonds. Think it was over a thousand but not sure. I just assumed it would be 18 like his Child Trust Fund |

Oh I’m glad I read this. My son is 16 in May. He only has £100 premium bonds bought by his great grandmother when he was born so I think I’ll just cash it in and put the money in his bank account to save the hassle.

It sounds extremely frustrating. I guess if we do invest, we will have to be meticulous about recording the value of the bonds and the holder numbers, so it can all be tracked when it crosses over.

I’m glad I’ve read this as my sons (14 and 17) are about to receive an inheritance which I was putting into premium bonds for them. I take it the 17 year old is straight forward as I guess he will just have a regular adult account from the start?
But could I open an account for the 14 year old and manage it myself, closing it down before he becomes 16 and then wait a few weeks and then reopen as an adult account? Do the above problems arise when trying to sort it when they’ve already turned 16, or is it problematic for children’s premium bond accounts full stop? Ideally I’d like them both to have premium bonds from their Nan at the same time, but I don’t like the sounds of the problems you guys are having to sort it out into adult accounts 😢 |

I remember now , my daughter must have won and they sent her a cheque instead of reinvesting the month she turned 16, that’s how we found out the account was then in her name. The cheque would have had her ns&i information on it. But had she not won I’m sure we would not have had a letter from ns&i.
If age 15 I think I’d wait until age 16 to invest. It’s not a bad place to invest kids savings, just they seem to make the transition difficult. OP I’m sure if you phone them, but have your son beside you they will give you the information you need. You will need to give your details and then they will need to speak to your son. They will probably want to know how much he has or what type of account, etc. |

Is the transition difficult only if you don't know the holder number though? Does the holder number change in the transition?

He turned 16 last week. It was only when I wanted to cash some of my bonds in I noticed his account no longer on dashboard with my own bond records.
I'm going to have a dig around in old documents and see if I have anything. If not I'll try ringing them with DS with me, like suggested. It just caught me off guard as I hadn't noted his details. I'm sure if I can get hold of them then I can do form. |

The 16 year old needs to set up their own account, but to do so they/you need to complete a form and get it witnessed by a non family member. I did this and ours went missing. So had to be done again. It took months. Pre covid I’m sure it wasn’t so bad but with covid and home working and masses of paperwork sitting in offices it is probably more difficult. I’m not sure how the person at home gets the paperwork. We had to do ours mid lockdown when we weren’t meant to speak to anyone let alone have them in our house witnessing a signature, lol!
If you buy them today at age 15, as soon as they are 16 they then transfer to their name but to do so you need to compete the paperwork. I think. Unless it’s changed. |
