Orkney Chair
On my visit to Orkney last year to trace my adopted Mothers roots I decided I wanted a hand made Orkney chair - something I can pass down the family. It is made from Oats grown on Orkney and wood from trees found there - all hand made per order by a family in their house - no factory. It took 5 months but I knew I wanted the bells and whistles version and knew the demand and wait time - it was shopped by their own carriers leaving Orkney on Monday and arrived today. I am over the moon - it has pride of place in my Scottish themed bedroom suite of rooms and will take some better photos tomorrow of me sat in it, looking out into my garden with a gin once my friend pops round (and I have new hand made bedding arriving tomorrow too so will be a treat for this insomniac !)
Thank you Gull - this will always remind me of you, your family and tremendous hospitality and kindness shown to myself and Sue scapacrafts Edited at 03:49 PM. |

How lovely! That chair will be around an awful lot longer than any of us will be, it's a gorgeous heirloom piece.

Looks lovely... a well made chair.
remember an Orkney chair gets even more comfy and cosy the more it is sat in, I have my grandad's one... the back is "people" shaped and a little wonky (he always crossed his legs and leant one side)... and the "hood" still smells faintly of his pipe tobacco and the peat on the fire. The memories are strong. |

Love the chair, very impressive.
Just noticed the wee drawer, is that for storing the gin 😊 Tracy Edited at 04:01 PM. |

Well you live and learn. I have never heard of these before but how nice to see one. It looks extremely well made and so iconic.
Well done on your purchase and enjoy the memories it will bring.
