From your experience - Universal

From people's experience, does it tend to work out cheaper to buy Universal/IOA tickets and a fastpass ticket on their own in advance, or cheaper to book into one of the resorts hotels for 1 night where you get tickets and the queue jump pass included in the price?

Hotel was cheaper for us in early August.

RPR - 1 night £269
Parking -£20
Food inc breakfast for 4 - £125

About £400 for one night but got Express passes for all 4 of us for two days.

However, we found a lot of people had Express passes and sometimes the queues were longer than the standard lines!

If you go after 4pm, all rides including Harry Potter can be done without passes

I suppose it depends a lot on how many people are in your group as to how big the savings would be.

The unlimited express passes on the universal website are coming up at $84.99 for one person. So for two people, for two days that would be around £340. A hotel for universal for one night would be:

Hard Rock: £258
Loews Royal Pacific: £231
Loews Portofino Bay: £273

(Hotel prices are based on booking.com's prices for May 28th 2018).

One night at one of those hotels would give you two days of unlimited express passes. Park admission tickets are not included though.

We booked Lowes Pacific Resort for one day last week... (Then loved it, we booked another night this week)...

Hotels.com £100 + £30 Tesco vouchers (at tripple value) = £130 (Cost to us)
Parking £18

Total cost £148

This week, We booked direct with the passholder discount (should have booked in advance) £200 + Parking = £218.

2 People, 2 Days express passes cost about $90 pp per day. I know I could get passholder discount - but, we actually quite liked the hotel.

It depends on the time of year you are going to if this is worth it or not. we went in may and went to universal twice, the second time was close to memorial weekend and we went on every ride we wanted to go on except minions in under 5 hours, i dont think we waited more than 15 minutes for a ride. if you're going out of season i see no reason for purchasing fast passes because there are literally hundreds of guests with them, remember it's not like disney where they only have so many passes per hour per ride.

You don’t get tickets included in the hotel stay, just the unlimited express pass. Which as the others have said depends on how much it is on the day you want to go and how many are staying in the room.

Good point, I hadn't spotted that in the opening post.

Just stayed at Universals Cabana Bay for 3 nights, Mon 13/11 to Thurs 16/11 and hardly queued at all. Longest queue time 10 mins. So depends when you go whether you need the express pass or not. I have never seen the parks so quiet.

Been here 2 weeks and been to Universal 3 times so far, imho you really do not need an express pass, most rides have been a walk on.

The two parks have been dead this week. Been a joy to stroll around. If you're going at a busier time then it will be worth it.
