Alamo/ Virgin Online check in - When to do it

So i have paid for car hire and have ref number etc.
Not picking car up until JULY 3... but can check in any time from now.

Is it too early to do online check in today, or should I wait until nearer the time...just in case flight changes etc.?

I booked our Alamo car around Christmas for our April holiday with DFCH and did OLCI and STC immediately.

No problem if your flight changes by a few hours - they won't bat an eyelid as it happens all the time. Just make sure you return it before the time you left the barrier. In other words drive out at 15.30 get it back for 15.29. Although Alamo do give you 29 minutes grace so you could push it to 15.59 if you fancy it.

I think it's when you want to as there is no hard and fast rule.
Personally I wouldn't yet as if the price drops you will ring up and cancel and rebook at the lower price which generates a new Alamo ref no.
I tend to do mine about 10 days before the holiday.

At 72 am I allowed a slight memory misjudgement? I did book with Andy around Christmas but only for me. Then Joan thought about adding her in case of emergency so I got a revised price from him to add Joan and a full tank. It was only marginally dearer (even with the gas) so I cancelled and rebooked. Just scrapped the old bar code and printed another.

I maybe thought that after 35 times hiring Joan might want to increase her experience of 1 mile round Regal Palms 10 or more years ago.

Mick
Mick. Joan did well with the 1 mile trip.
My Wife has never driven out there and she first went in 1982!
Mind you she wont drive over here either. I sold her Fiesta years ago when I found out she had done 250 miles in a year and that was only 1 route - to and from Sainsbury's!

We had a Chrysler Sebring convertible at the time. Not quite the street cred of a Mustang but never again. No protection against the baking sun for 90% of the holiday and being caught out on I-4 in a thunderstorm and getting 6" of rain in the car.

Joan's had a Citroen C3 from new on an 04 plate and done about 15,000 miles. She does however go off on her own so we are hanging on to it as I doubt there'd be any second hand value.

Mick. As you say not worth selling it now.

As an aside I have just renewed my Driving Licence as it expires in Sept this year whilst we are out there.

I assume my new one will only be valid until I am 70 so 7 years only?

Glad to see that I'm the "go to" source for DIBB septuagenarians.

Yes you'll need to renew at 70 but the good news is that it's free. Renewable every three years afterwards I recall.

Thanks Mick. I had a telling off online for forgetting my Govt Gateway details!

Ahh, free! Love that word.
