I have a bad back so have to stand up regularly so prefer an aisle seat so tend to book and pay for the peace of mind

£150 is a a tenth of our spending money budget!
Totally agree six of us so £360 a lot of money on top of the fortune we have already paid.

Sadly I think I will have to bite the bullet for our trip next year. Our party of 12 (6 adults 6 kids including 5 who have never flown before and one with severe anxiety issues). Just can't risk being separated

We have always been very lucky, firstly as a family of four and now as an adult family of 6, we have never paid and always sat together.
If I remember rightly years ago when the children were small there wasn't the option to pre book and pay, or if there was it wasn't as popular as it is today so the chance of being split must of been very slim as we had over 20 trips to the US as a family.
Would I pay now?, yes probably if the kids were still small, I wouldn't be happy about it but I do like to sit together as a family so I would factor it in the flight price.
What really annoys me are those that don't pay or say "I pity the person who has to sit next to my child if we are split" and then bleat about it when they are split.
Fair or not (and I don't think it is) it's a choice that you have!

We always pay even when they have been a group of us , it's your choice if you pay or not , but if you don't pay it's the risk you take

We have always paid the money. I plan every detail of my Florida holiday so I couldn't leave the flight seats to chance.

We are flying in to Miami next year and I was pleasantly surprised that seat selection with AA was free.
