1st Time Trip To DLP

Hello All,

I have just booked our first trip to DLP for September.

We have been to WDW a few times and I am generally able to organise our days there but I don't know what to expect from DLP.

Are any of you able to give us a few hints & tips to maximize our trip. There are 4 of us in totally (Myself, Partner and our 2 children).

I will take any advice you have.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

I’m just back. It was our second trip

The first tip is that if you’re saying on site, use the magic hour. We got to ride Ratatouille, Tower of Terror, RC Racer and Rock’n’Roller coaster in just over an hour. Some of them had hour long waits by 11am

The next is use your fast passes wisely. The biggest queue for fast passes was Big thunder mountain. If don’t get an early time it’ll tell you when you can next apply for one. We got back to back FPs for BTM and Space Mountain that combined has 140 minutes of queue at the time

Some of the rides are different. Space Mountain (currently Hyperspace Mountain) has inversions and s much more intense for instance. Check out some trip reports and videos they will give you a feel for the place. At the hub the first land on the left is Frontierland. Running along Main Street are two arcades, one either side. They are cool. Try the (not really) secret way into Frontierland from the top end of Main Street

As hard as it may be, try not to compare DLP to WDW, because even though there are parts that WDW does better, and parts DLP does better (Paris's Big Thunder Mountain is the best there is), you need to see them for their own merits, ie instead of expecting certain rides or restaurants etc, enjoy the ones that are present, and check out new ones

There is loads of helpful info on here - ask specific questions, give specific info (eg where are you staying etc) and I'm sure you will get lots of great answers.

Also, read trippies, watch videos, learn some French (seriously, the simple word 'Bonjour' and a smile will get you a long way at DLP) and immerse yourself in a completely different experience and culture.

Don't think of 'Disney' as 'American'. DLP is a distinctly European experience for a completely different market than the US parks. They want different things. You won't find the 'Have a magical day, be my new BFF' style service in DLP because French people regard that as fake and tacky. Instead you will get polite and reserved service, and CMs who will do you the courtesy of leaving you alone unless you want to engage with them, because they want you to enjoy your holiday without being bothered. But start a conversation with them (preferably in fractured school French) and they blossom!
