Up for abuse but found Mobile phone... money... credit cards...
We walked the dogs to the beach today and found a mobile phone, credit cards and money.
I telephoned the card numbers and informed them I had the phone, money, cards etc... left my number of whom to contact. About 2 hours later, the son of the owner rang and I explained everything. He said he would ring the owners husband, gave our address and phone number. Well 4 hours later they turned up on our doorstep and after proof I gave them everything. Apart from a dubious thank you that was that. Personally I was disgusted. In Asdas, a bunch of daffs cost £1... I would have thought that would have been a kind gesture. Next time, I will just leave it...… I am up to criticism, but when I have lost anything I have been so grateful and so appreciative. This time, I really disgusted. Perhaps, I am outdated...…. I wont do this next time. x

I’m pretty sure I would feel the same as you. And I’m pretty sure I would be so pleased to get my stuff back I would buy you flowers or something as a thank you. I had this years ago, I posted on here that I’d had to go and let someone out as they had locked themselves in the lobby behind my salon. It was nearly 10 at night and I was ready for bed. Not so much as a dandelion did I get but I was made to feel bad for even thinking that something as a little thank you gesture would have been hugely appreciated!

Seems to be the norm. I found a bunch of money on the school yard once. I was in the process of handing in to the receptionist at the school and a woman demanded I hand it over as it was hers. Her daughter had dropped it on the way into school. Now I was clearly handing it in. They were in a soaking wet bundle in my hands and she was less than grateful. I wasn't expecting gushing thanks of a shrine in my honour but a thank you and a smile wouldn't have gone a miss.

Maybe they couldn't buy you anything because you had all their money?

I understand how you feel and sadly too many people just don't appreciate decent people. As my mum has always said, the more you do for people the less they appreciate it.

I wouldn’t want flowers or chocolates etc. I would have been happy with the verbal Thank you. If they had bought a £1 bunch of daffs would you then complain that all that effort and all you got was a £1 bunch of flowers. In reality you found something called a number and they came and collected them. It’s hardly like you went above the call of duty.

I don’t think I could leave something lying there in future and I wouldn’t expect anything in return, but a sincere thank you would have been nice. I picked someone’s phone up in Universal once and chased after them and they acted as if I’d picked it out of their pocket and didn’t thank me.

I think you are right to expect them to be a bit/lot more grateful but I hope you won't not bother again.
Just bask in the knowledge you did the right thing! |

You have done the right thing. Even though you say you wouldn’t do it again I bet you would because you are that kind of person. I don’t understand some people being so ungrateful.

My husband handed in about 600 euro cash to a little hotel we were staying in , he was up early to run and the owner had dropped it the night before , it was their takings for a few days .
He was thankful but I was slightly narked that when we had our afternoon cocktail he charged us the ten euro for them . I offered someone ten pounds when they gave us back a purse with about thirty quid and no cards , they declined but it shows appreciation |
