Four Points on a Fat Boy - August 2012 - Day 2

Four Points on a Fat Boy – Wednesday 1st – Saturday 11th August 2012

Cast members:

Me – Alanda – riding bikes for nearly 20 years now, but enjoying being pillion on this trip. Current bike is Harley Davidson 883 Sportster.
DH – Wiggy – riding bikes since just after he could walk I think - say over 35 years! Current bike Harley Davidson Fat Boy.

Day 2. PSJ – Lands End 220 miles

Another early start saw us heading out through Radstock, Farrington Gurney and Chewton Mendip and other such villages featured in Midsomer Murders before reaching Cheddar Gorge which we took a slow ride through, but didn’t stop along the High Street for some Cheddar Cheese – we had too much to do today!

In order to spend a couple of hours at Tintagel we opted to take the M5 for about 50 miles, hitting a major rainstorm on the way, making it almost impossible to see where we were going. It dried off for a bit as we came off onto the A30, but hit us again further down the road. When we arrived in Tintagel it was a beautiful summer’s day – blue skies and warm sun – so we had a brew and a Cornish pasty (what else?) in King Arthur’s Café (where else?) before walking down to Tintagel Castle and Island.

There were some amazing views from here, but when we saw the storm clouds approaching we decided to pack up and get going.

The rain did catch us on the way out of Tintagel but we remained mostly dry on the A39 and A30 which took us straight to Lands End via Penzance on some great roads. There was a queue of traffic on the road into Lands End, and it turned out there was a ‘Summer Evening’ event on, which comprised 2 tribute bands and fireworks.

We parked the bike right outside the Lands End hotel and found our room with fabulous views before taking the bike round to have its photo taken at the signpost. It was the centre of attraction there, and we soon had a big crowd - I think it was the noise tbh (nothing sounds quite like a Harley)

We then strolled down to the First and Last House in England before having a well-earned drink (or 2) and settling down for the night at the hotel.

Had to show my fiancé a pic of your fat boy. It's first on his list if we win the lottery! Lovely scenery, will definitely have to take a road trip there. Looks like a great start to your trip
