Newbie question
So me and my partner are giving this serious thought. However with only the riveria available as your home resort and the points per night being a bit high. What are the chances if you chose this as your home resort to get rooms at the 7 months for say somewhere like boardwalk or old key west? We would more then likely be looking at September / October or maybe even January

If you're buying direct why not ask Disney for one of the other resorts, if they think they will lose a sale they will do their utmost to fulfil you wishes. IMO it's best to buy where you're more likely to stay and Disney can often change use years to suit buyers needs.

Late September to early January is peak DVC time. To have a good choice of other resorts at 7 months at those times, means really going 1 bed, which is twice the points.
If you wish to stay at Boardwalk at peak times in a studio, you are better off buying Boardwalk. The problem with Boardwalk is it is relatively poor value, with 24 years only left and quite a high price per point. Buying Boardwalk direct is $190 a point. If you want to sleep around resorts you'd be much better off buying twice the points at SSR at 110 and staying in 1 beds if you could be happy paying twice the dues every year. Alternatively buy Boardwalk resale at a much more palatable $125 ish a point. There is no good reason to spend such a massive premium buying it direct in my view.

Correct.
DVC resorts have different expiry dates depending on when they first went on sale. OKW owners were offered the ability to ‘buy’ an extension but it’s never been repeated and that was a number of years ago. I’d speculate if it has been financially successful they would repeat the process, but they have not yet done that. So it may not have worked financially for Disney.

If you buy OKW points direct from Disney they will give you an extended contract which is until 2057.

When you sit down in front of a DVC salesperson they will have access to the current inventory. Not every location has open inventory and you may need to join a waitlist if you are really keen on a specific resort.
If you are buying resale then all resorts are usually available on one listing website or another. |
