Iphone Storage Help

I currently have an iPhone 6 and I am upgrading to an 8. I cant back up my phone to laptop as it says I don't have enough space on the PC. I couldn't back up to the cloud as again not enough space.

I bought an extra 50GB and my phone uploaded all my photos and videos to the cloud.

Is this all I need to do? I don't seem to have the option to back up on I tunes, I select back up to I cloud but that's it, nothing happens.
