Help.. cosmopolitan or treasure island?

Have booked our trip this year and we fly into NYC for one night followed by 4 nights in LV 5 nights in San Fran and 6 in Anaheim. Had booked to stay at Golden Nugget in Vegas but after reading some reviews and trip reports am thinking of moving to a hotel on the strip. Our choices are either Cosmo or TI. There are 4 of us, me and hubby (both our 40ths this year, hence the big holiday) and our two daughters 19 and 17. Which of these hotels would we be best suited at? Or does it not matter? Having never been before Ive got no clue!

Cosmopolitan is a much nicer hotel. Treasure island is much more run down and I found it quite smoky... I would love to stay at the Cosmo so if that is an option I would definitely do it.

For a first trip, I would agree to move to a strip based hotel. And if those two are remotely the same price, Cosmo for sure. Fantastic location and most (not the lowest tier, think they're called city) rooms have a balcony which is REALLY rare for Vegas. Although it's a party hotel so will be very expensive and busy/loud on weekends, depending what nights you're staying there.

Since there's four of you though, I'd actually recommend pricing either the Venetian or Palazzo as their base rooms are effectively junior suites so very large and easily accommodate four with room to spare. I personally prefer the Palazzo side but they're run as a single mega-hotel so you'll get the same service levels at either.

My normal recommendation would be Vdara (technically behind Cosmo, which is quite small by Vegas standards so I still consider it on strip) as it's non-smoking and no casino, so peaceful at the end of a full on day. But I don't think they do two bed rooms, only kings.

I agree the Cosmo. Much nicer hotel.
When we have gone with kids we have tended to stay at the other end of the strip (MGM end) to be away from the heart of the strip on a night where it can get a bit chaotic but we did visit the Cosmo a couple of times to look around and eat in the Wicked Spoon buffet. Got a work colleague who has stayed there in one of the fountain view rooms and the photos are amazing! Suppose it depends what you want. My son went through a phase of loving swimming so once when we went we chose the hotel because of the kid friendly pool for example. If you purely decide on which is the nicest hotel though then Cosmo hands down.

Ah.. the price we have been quoted at Cosmo is for a city room... so you wouldnt recommend that then? For the 4 nights theres 100 difference between the two with Cosmo being the more expensive. Im not sure I want to go much higher than that. At TI the price quoted is for a run of the house Ive read that means you can end up anywhere?

It's not so much that I wouldn't recommend the city room, but it's considerably smaller (400 sq ft compared to 600) than the next level up. Especially as a family of four for five nights, I would want as much space as you can afford. Terrace Studio Two Queens would be my choice there, fountain view if in budget. I usually stay at the Vdara in a fountain view and it's so nice just to sit and watch them.

Although one thing I would say (which I forgot originally - used to just looking for me and OH) is to take a look at some room tours, as there's some interesting design choices in terms of privacy - bathtub open to the main room, for example. They have had a refurb in the past year by the looks of it though, so that may have improved.
