Offsite- I have never wanted to 'stay' at Disney. I like a villa, home from home for the time we are there.

On site as we are DVC members and I love being immersed in the magic. The same applies when we visit Universal as we will always stay onsite there. None of us has any desire whatsoever to sit behind the wheel of a car whilst on holiday either. Only downside for us is eating onsite most of the time as prices are very high and standards have slipped somewhat over the last few years.

We prefer off site. Generally one of the hotels in Hotel Plaza Blvd, so just walking distance from Disney Springs. Also being on Disney property, although not a Disney hotel, they get the free shuttles throughout the day to the Disney parks which is great. Also can easily eat off site, find on site is so expensive compared. So we mix and match our meals.
With 10/12 of us off site is also considerably cheaper. We do though book a room at Universal for 2 nights and we share the room between us. Makes it much easier for doing the Universal parks. Hotel also does cheap prices for many off site excursions which often pick up at the hotel. Free shuttles to/from shopping outlets as well. I do find though that the Disney onsite hotels we have visited, just to be nosey, have been way too large for our liking. I suppose that is why they are called "resorts". We do prefer the smaller, more compact hotels. Makes it so much easier with keeping track of everyone Our next holiday though, will be our very last long haul holiday, so for special treat we are booking either Beach Club or Yacht for 3 nights as then can walk to Epcot and HS and easily pop back for a feet up etc |

It would be the third option for me ... both! We like to spend time on and off and always do split stays.

Off for us - a villa - with a pool - and a bedroom each. And a night or 2 in the middle at a Universal giving FOTL access. Bliss.
