You also go to Muir Woods, over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a highlight of our trip. Check them out on Trip Advisor
I would also reccomend Dylan's ultimate tour. Pick up point/shop is also very close to the Lombard St Zigzags.

Dylans do great tours. The full day tour will take in Muir Woods, but if you are short of time then a half day tour will finish in Sausalito and you can get a ferry back. If you are driving down to LA then the redwoods down the coast are nicer and not so touristy. Santa Cruz is also a nice place to pop into. Monterey could then be done on the way down, otherwise it's 2 hours there and back. Depends on why you want to do Monterey and how much you like being on the road.

Hi again to give Monterey any justice you would definately need to stay over, and from what we and lots of others say it's almost a must do.

Just wanted to say we did the bus trip from Vegas to the South Rim taking in Hoover Dam. It was fantastic, a long day but an unforgettable trip. Brilliant driver. Highlight of our Vegas visit.
Hope your trip goes brilliantly.

Thanks everyone. I’ve seen the Dylan’s tour mentioned a few times in here so think I’ll be looking a bit more into that one! Hubby wants to see the Google Facebook headquarters (he’s a techie) and we want to do Alcatraz but I think we will have enough time to squeeze a Dylan’s day trip in!
As we are not driving but flying from place to place I’m not sure we can include Monterey it’s a nice idea though so I will definitely ponder on it some more!
That’s good about the bus tour it does sound really good so it’s good to hear from others that have done it too x

Google, Facebook. Apple, Hewlett Packard head offices aren't exactly in San Francisco. They are all in the Palo Alto, Mountain View, Cupertino areas which are the other side of the airport, about 60 minutes from San Fran. Pretty much at San Jose.

So not sure how you plan to get to them if you are not driving.

For the Googleplex you can get the train down to San Antonio and then the bus from there. Unless you know an employee on site, you can't go inside, but you can wander around and see some of the sculptures such as the Android ones and the T-Rex. Its a big site though across a dozen or so buildings. I think you can still go in the Google Store, but the visitor centre is still only for those who are being escorted I believe.

Facebook, you are not allowed on the campus and can only get as far as the sign. Anything more needs to be via an Employee.

Apple, not been to the new office, but they used to have a small store but that was about it.

Intel has a museum you can visit.

Don't know about the trips, I have had access through knowing people at all of the sites through what I do, but I don't believe they get any more access than if you drove yourself.
