There will probably be more original and exciting ideas. We've seen lots of Florida but only once what you might call a road trip.
It was nearly 20 years ago so I can't even really remember the hotels. From Sanford we drove down to Fort Lauderdale Beach then on to breakfast on Ocean Drive, Miami. Next stop Key Largo followed by Key West. Finally up to Fort Myers Beach for a few days then back to SFB. I do remember having a nice dinner at Snooks on Key Largo. Sat outside and watch the sunset. We have just had a couple of days in St Augustine in a lovely turn of the 19th century B&B oldest city in USA apparently, really quaint. Beautiful beaches. Would love to go further North to Jacksonville and Savannah

We’re actually planning a road trip for our next trip. Not strictly Florida though. Hopefully Chattanooga,TN - Blue Ridge Mountains, GA - Savannah, GA, or Hilton Head, SC - then drive down to Florida taking in a few days in Orlando, followed by a trip down the to Miami/the keys. Would love to fit in a few days at Panama City beach on the handle aswell but not sure if we will have time!
Need some adventure in my life and luckily I have a husband who loves driving 😂😂 Edited at 06:48 PM. |

We did one many years ago where we had a few nights in Fort Lauderdale and then I think we went to islamorada then Marco island, and then Sarasota. Not 100% sure on the order, but it involved stays in all those places! We’ve also stayed in Naples, rotunda and pass a grille but they were all separate trips.

We are going Orlando to Panama City Beach for 3 nights, then 3 nights in New Orleans, then back to Miramar Beach for 2 nights, before returning to Orlando.

The Panhandle is great. A couple of years ago we flew into Pensacola via Atlanta. From there we did..
3 days in Pensacola Beach at the Margaritaville. In that time we also visited the Alabama park at Mobile (about an hour away) and also the Museum of Navy Aviation (a couple of miles). we then moved to .. 3 days at Destin. highlights there are the Beach in front of Henderson State Park and hiring a boat at Crab Island. we then moved to.. 2 days Tampa, where we stayed at the HRH (Not good) and then Busch Gardens. we then moved to .. 9 days in a villa in Orlando. We then moved to.. 1 Day at Daytona beach before flying home from there via Atlanta. Total mileage around 1150 Regrets.. We didnt know about the Rainbow River where we could have stopped between Destin and Tampa. A combination of 2 other, previous vacations would read as follows; Fly into Tampa and see Desoto Beach. Venice and finding Fossilised Sharks teeth at Casperson Beach. Sarasota Naples and Deinor-wiggins state park. Everglades causeway and an airboat ride in the proper Everglades. Hawks Key resort at Duck Key (Beautiful and great facilities). Stop at 7 mile bridge and walk the derelict old one (now a footpath). Key West. Fly out of Key West via Atlanta. Of course, if you were really adventurous, you could fly into Pensacola and then combine option 1 with option 2, carrying on at Tampa towards Key West. That must be in the region of 1100 miles of beautiful beaches and views. Hoping it helps!

We love our road trips and have done two big ones in Florida. I only did a trip report for one of them but the link is below. Hope it gives you some ideas!
Tampa is just great for in/out as it's so quick to get through, and usually cheaper. I'd love to do another trip up to the Panhandle area and further north - next time?!
