Gallblader removal

HI Dibbers ,just wondering if anyone has the gallbladder removal operation and can offer any words of wisdom
I had my gallbladder out by keyhole last Monday and to be honest it still feels quite painful I did have a google re symptoms etc and spoke to my consultant before I left hospital and have a follow up next week with him and a GP appointment on Wednesday. So not after medical advice just if anyone has had theirs out how long the pain maybe lasted and any other advice? I cant decide if I am a complete wuss or having not had an operation before this is the norm ? Thanks Dibbers

Had mine removed almost 3 years ago. I had been in agony prior to removal but afterwards although I felt a bit achy for a few days I didn’t feel the need to take any painkillers. I recovered and was back to normal really quick. My neighbour had hers removed around the same time as me and struggled for months though but she didn’t have keyhole surgery.

When I had mine out, it was very painful...I can remember sleeping upright in a chair was best for me...I crawled up the stairs the first day home...absolutely agony...so went back down and slept in the chair. Hope you feel better soon. 😘

I had mine removed by keyhole surgery and was back to normal in a couple of weeks. You may have a stitch abcess which is painful. See your gp just in case. He can prescribe antibiotics.

Hi,

Had mine out a year ago, I was pretty much on my feet a few days later. What hit me worse was the anesthetic! My aunt had hers out around same time and was bad. I think a week is still such a short period of time, don't forget you had pretty big surgery just a week ago! Hope you are pain free soon

(p.s best thing I did was having the op. I was having constant attacks, one stone blocked bile duct near liver and I ended up in hosp and jaundice, they were going to do an emergency op but luckily it moved! since removal I've been great, its nice to have no attacks! hope you feel better soon)

it's normal to have some pain post surgery and everyone's experience will be different. If something just doesn't feel right, it looks infected (red, leaking, wound coming apart) and/or you have a high temperature then i would get it looked at. You could always ring the ward and speak to one of the Nurses for reassurance. Hope it's feeling better soon
