Dollars
Just bought a chunk of my spends at 1.29 from Covent Garden fx online. Thought I’d get half now while the rate was ok. Worried it completely tanks with brexit looming. If only we knew!

I have bought all of mine now in 3 chunks even though not going until Nov. The first main chunk was back when the rate hit 1.4 for a short spell and then more recently at 1.28 and 1.295. All averages out at 1.34 which, for all the hoohah around brexit, is actually slightly better than what I recall getting in 2016 when I last went. Today's rate may go up or down over next few months but who knows. As long as it doesn't drop too much for those still to buy or load cards. Enjoy your trip.

Take a step back though. To what extent do you think the rate will deviate over next wee while and what would be impact to you? I would have settled for 1.3 when I started to plan and although I have ended up at 1.34 and a bit, the extra is about enough for one family meal so it's hardly life-changing. If you assume the average family had £2k spends, then the impact is £100 up or down for every 5 cents change in the dollar rate. Noone wants to buy then see rate jump but will it be end of the world? It's like flights, we have to commit some time.

At Christmas I didn't bother to exchange any in advance. Just went with $100 from a previous trip and drew money out on a clarity card or spent on the card (as I would at home). Never gave the exchange rate a second thought, it was essentially irrelevant. I'm now a convert and won't bother to track exchange rates ever again

Pre Brexit and I got 1.48
Easter 2017 and after Brexit, I got an average of 1.21 Easter 2018 and I got 1.4. I came home with $1100 and kept them. This year I am looking today at around 1.29, even though I am told there is an impending National disaster. I don't go until July, already have the $1100, so I think that I will wait and see. I had some unexpected cash come in so used it to buy $ for my spending money. 1.2966 with John Lewis. Something else to tick off the list.

I keep getting small amounts of dollars with my Revolut and WeSwap cards at 1.30 (which is today’s exchange rate) in my opinion at least I’ll have some money at decant enough exchange rate and the rest of the spends will just have to wait until after Brexit. We are flying out 23rd June and money to exchange will become available from our savings on 1st June so nothing I can do but wait. Hoping for at least 1.30 exchange rate and any more than that will be bonus.
