Hi we have 2 ragdolls (from a rescue) and they have to be housecats because as a breed they are too stupid and trusting 😀.
Our cats love spending time in the garden - we tried harnesses but they acted like their legs were broken! So, we supervise them - we have cat cams to help and we have attached bamboo fencing lightly to our existing fence panels. The bamboo comes away from the fence if they try to climb it as it is attached at the middle but not the top. This buys us enough time to grab them.
To be fair, they don’t try to escape unless they see a bird or something interesting.
So, if we are out there, they are with us, and if not, in summer they go out in the morning, lunchtime and in the evening for periods of time to have a look and chase the birds and bees!

Ours our now indoor cats - not through choice as it is an absolute nightmare. Charlie was diagnosed with Feline Immune deficiency about 18 months ago so we have had to keep him and his brother in ever since. Not been easy as they both were outside more than they were in, so been a real learning curve for all of us! When it’s really nice we tend to shut them out of the living room/dining room so that we can open the patio doors and windows up fully. They then have the kitchen/hallway and upstairs to run around in. Do have cool mats for them but they don’t seem interested in lying on them. I do lock open the windows but it’s so sad as they sit right up close to them sniffing the air through the gap

For all of you with indoor cats, where do you keep the cat litter tray and how do you stop the litter going everywhere?

In the bathroom.

Some litter tracks more than others. There are mats to catch the worst of it.

We put it in our downstairs loo but the mats never catch it all and it’s really annoying

Reading with interest as we’re going to have to have an indoor cat. Johnny is too nervous to go out safely - he gets scared and hides and won’t come back in and vet advice is to try a harness but he’ll essentially have to be an indoor cat as it’s too risky for him to go out. It seems a shame but it won’t do him any harm to stay in, he’s never known any different.

Last year we put window restrictors around the house and they've been great. The windows open maybe an inch. Enough to let a draft through but can't be pushed open. Our cat now sits on the windowsill sniffing the air that comes in. Must be frustrating though for her! We also bought a large dog cage which she goes in in the garden if we're sitting out. First few times she was nervous but now she begs to go in it and just lies there watching the bugs and flies!
