Meals Ideas - for someone who can't eat spicy food
We're friends with another 2 couples through running, and we've been to their houses for dinner. One couple did a BBQ in the summer and the other couple set up a couple of raclettes and did various meats, halloumi, veg, potatoes, garlic bread, mini buns etc. which was really fun.
Now we've finished (ish) our home renovations, its time we had them round to our house. However, I have no idea what to cook. Normally I do Indian or Thai when having people round, as its easy to make in advance and I love all the side dishes etc. However, one of the gents in our group does not like spicy food at all, can't even tolerate a korma. So that kicks out Indian, Thai, Mexican - basically everything we eat day to day So I'm looking for suggestions for what I can do? I'm not looking for cordon bleu cookery but something where I can do a couple of dishes and some sides, and not copy what the others have done. Also need a veggie option for me! Thanks in advance!

I can't eat spicy foods -a korma tastes hot to me! So how about things like Shepherds pie, potato dauphinoise, nice breads and cheeses, olives, casseroles and then concentrate on nice puddings?

How about Spanish tapas, some dishes can be spicy to suit all tastes but enough for him not to feel left out?

Seafood lasagne, baked Camembert and crusty bread, coc au vin. If you have a fondue designed for oil, that is great and easy, I cut up steak, whole prawns, squid, mussels, mushrooms and everyone cooks their own at the table, its great fun and simple to prepare.
Fish pie is another that’s easy to prepare in advance.

I had this problem with my mum, she wouldn't even use pepper as it's too spicy.
Why not stick to what you like, but just have a plainer alternative available? For example, if you did something like fajitas, you could have some plain grilled meats and introduce most of the heat through the toppings which he could leave off. |
